actually not saving any money but 4 mil is nothing to an mlb team:suds:

ESPN's Keith Law reports the Diamondbacks have acquired SS Jean Segura and RHP Tyler Wagner from the Brewers for 2B Aaron Hill, RHP Chase Anderson and SS Isan Diaz.

The Brewers will also get cash to cover part of Hill's $12 million salary. Segura has struggled mightily since his breakout year in 2013 and could probably use a change of scenery. Jonathan Villar will take over at shortstop for Milwaukee but it shouldn't be long until top prospect Orlando Arcia makes his much anticipated big-league debut.

Looks like a win win deal for both teams.

Looks like Dave Stewart still hasn't figured out what prospects are actually worth. One of these days maybe...

Not a bad move for my Dbacks… finally get rid of Hill's ridiculous contract and Anderson was expendable with how deep the rotation is with three 4/5 starters battling it out for that last spot.

We needed some speed in the lineup and he'll add that while shedding some salary as well to open up the possibility of another FA signing. I like it.

Segura hasn't played well since his breakout 2013 season.

The Dbacks only saved a net of $4 mil after figuring in Segura's salary.

The question is: Is Isan Diaz worth more than $4mil?

Segura is a good candidate to bounce back in 2016. One has to wonder how much having his infant son die midway through the 2014 season played a role in his regression? He will likely spend the majority of time at 2B. Looks like it will be a 4 man competition between Owings, Drury, Segura, & Gosselin for 2B during the spring.

Anderson/Wagner is almost a wash. Anderson is a proven back of the rotation piece, who will pitch 150+ innings of near league average ball. Wagner is 3 years younger with one more season of control than Anderson, A sinker ball pitcher who was a relief pitcher in college. He will start in Reno & could be back in the BP when called up.

Diaz was a fringe top 10 prospect coming into 2016 for the Dbacks. While he is still a good 3-4 years from possibly seeing a big league ball club, he did hit very well in Missoula in 2015.
Diaz has the best upside of any of these players and looks like a future star.

So who is going to play in the minors for Arizona this year? They gonna sign some independent league guys or just go out there with half a farm?

Because he did well in the Pioneer League? lol

I mean maybe he pans out but there's a slight difference in pitching between the Pioneer League and AA, AAA and of course the MLB. Massive difference.

No one knew who he was outside of Dbacks fans until we traded him, now everyone thinks he'll be some sort of god? lolz

It's funny because everyone says we're fucked in 3 years, but that's exactly when Pollock and Goldy both become FA's. I love what Stewart is doing. I'd rather go all in during Goldy and Pollock's prime years than waste those years on the hope that some prospects pan out. Either way they'd become FA's in 2019 and we'd have to pay a premium on them. This doesn't change that.

3 years from now we'll have to decide who to resign out of Goldy, Pollock, Miller & Corbin, but we'll still have the majority of our core locked up (Greinke, Peralta, Ray, Tomas, Lamb, Brito, Bradley,Ahmed, Owings, Drury, Godley, etc.). All young pieces minus Greinke.

Let's say they only can afford two of those guys and it ends up being Goldy & Corbin… even then our team on paper looks really good, especially with how young our other core guys are.

Eventually he'll be better than Segura.

I've seen prospects come and go through our system with hype then do little to nothing and occasionally one will breakout. Time will tell. All I know is we are trying to win now. Segura helps in that regard, plus we save 6.5 million that we can use towards another piece in FA that will help us win.

Segura is way overrated in my opinion.

I don't think he is anymore. He's not looked great for two seasons now, people aren't that high on him anymore. Perfect time to roll the dice on him. If he pans out, great. If not we still have Ahmed, Owings, Drury and Gosselin. It's a deep IF.

That's a stretch at this point. He played in rookie ball in 2015. So take those numbers for what they are.

They are just haters. Not counting Gody & Pollock, we basically have control over half out lineup, for the next 5-6 seasons.

Goldschmidt doesn't become a FA until 2020. We hold a 2019 option on him. I believe they are working on a Pollock extension right now that will buy out a year or two of free agency. That's the reason they haven't avoided arbitration with him even though they are only 250k apart in their arbitration numbers. About two weeks ago, they agreed to terms all their other arbitration eligible players.

I knew a girl in high school named Aisan. I wonder if it's pronounced the same as Isan.

I like this only because the D-Backs weren't going to give Hill any real time and Ahmed and Owings are terrible offensively. I'm not sure the D-Backs are "deep" at the back end of the rotation. Anderson was pretty decent last year, but someone was expendable...just hope they picked the right starter.
