For as much shit as we've given this guy during the regular season in the past, he sure as hell rises to the occasion come playoff time, especially against his former team as it may appear.
They showed this stat in the espn recap of the last game. Briere has more playoff points (89) than any other player in the Nhl since 2006. That edges out Zetterberg (86), Crosby (82) and Malkin (73). As we all know, he led everyone in playoff points last season. He has five goals in this particular series and four of them (including one game winner) have directly helped us take our three games. The fifth goal sent game five to overtime.
If you had to bet on anyone being our hero in game seven, you know who the obvious choice is.
And I think we can stop calling him overpaid. Remember that? lol It seems downright silly now. I'd gladly pay a little more for a guy who routinely elevates his game come playoff time. You pay more for free agents anyway, but signing Briere turned out to be a fantastic move in the long run.
