ESPN 980 Washington reports the Redskins are interested in free agent NT Dan Williams.

Williams, the No. 26 overall pick in the 2010 draft, played close to 500 snaps for Arizona last season, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 overall 3-4 nose tackle. He finished third among nose tackles in run defense. After cutting NT Barry Cofield, the Redskins are in the market for a new space-eater up front.

Well, this would take us out of the Shelton sweepstakes. This is why we cant talk about the draft without FA first.

I think SM has made it pretty clear that you draft the best player and fill needs with FAs. And even though I'm OK with Shelton if they can sign Williams that would end any speculation of drafting for need and they can look at maybe Fowler.

dean that is so foolish i cant begin to say . williams played 37% of his available snaps at NT that leaves 63 % for shelton if they go that route

sorry but i wouldnt rule it out because williams is a 2 down guy with jenkins pass rush skills

so if shelton is the BPA at 5 they should pull the trigger

b/c they are going to give Williams like 5-6 mil per season. Is that backup money if you draft Shelton? Doesn't the 5th pick in the draft get at least 4m per season? That is 10 million for NT's. lol If the SKins think Shelton is the BPA at #5 why would they be interested in Williams? Shelton is going to be there at #5. He would be the starter. My sleeper draft pick at #5 is Waynes.

dean if you advocate paying 5-6 mil on williams for a guy who plays 37% of the snaps then that is a HUGE overpay

then add 7 mil for odrick and i think we will get 2 busts for that kind of money . williams should get no more then 2-3 mil

you said it yourself that FA always get overpaid. Williams ranks as one of the to 5 NT in the league. Plus he is only 27 years old. He is going to get paid. He has youth and upside plus he is proven. 2-3 mil? lol!!!

Bottom line here is that if he is signed say goodbye to Shelton.

we are not going after d williams there is a reason we got callahan we will get boling and iuptia that will be are 2 big FA the rest will be depth guys dont rule out safety

again dean why not give the younger jenkins that money for the same type of guy ? jenkins did play NT some in his caeer here in DC but again willaims offers no pass rush and plays way less then half the snaps and that is worth 5-6 mil ? think again we should pass at that price
