Justin Verlander, Alex Avila Reportedly Receiving Trade Interest from Cubs
It appears the inevitable rebuild is underway in Detroit.
I have a hard time picturing Verlander sporting a Cubs uniform, but I have a feeling this may happen. Verlander's trade value has dipped, the Cubs desperately need to add an arm to the rotation and they have the cash to take on his contract (or a good portion of it). Avila is also raking RHP, and he would actually be an upgrade as a platoon partner with Contreras. Over Montero, who they just lost (got rid of).
Detroit's going to be a god damn mess for the next handful of years now. Kept trading off their farm system, kept overpaying for high priced talent, kept buying at the deadline... and what did it get you? Not even an AL Pennant, and a barren minor league system. Ausmus is undoubtedly going to be canned as well. They're going to be the Phillies of the AL for a little bit.
