2015 NFL Draft rumors: Which 3-team trade with Browns makes sense for Eagles? | NJ.com

I've always viewed the possibility of Philly trading up to draft Mariota as a pipe dream. It would cost Philly their left nut to do so and, as Chippy has told us, he won't mortgage the future to trade up to get former Oregon QB. Chippy wouldn't lie now would he? Or would his interpretation of "mortgage the future" be different than that of most reasonable persons?

In any case, nj.com has floated two scenarios where Duck Man can get MM via a three-way trade involving Chippy, Cleveland, and a team in the top five. It goes something like this: Philly amasses three number one picks by trading Bradford to the Browns for their two first rounders or one of their first rounders this year and a first next year. By doing this, Philly gets two firsts from the Browns (which may be in different years) and hangs on to their own first (number 20 overall). Then, they package this king's ransom to trade up to someone in the top five.

While this isn't inconceivable, it's also a bit ambitious if you're thinking we could be the intended beneficiaries of Chippy's magnanimity in his quest to land his white whale. First, is Bradford really worth two first rounders? The Browns have proven to be some pretty stupid effers, but they're under new management now. Are they that desperate or stupid to part with two firsts for broken-down Bradford? Who knows?

Let's say they the Browns do pull that part of the trade off and Chippy wants to trade up in the top five. What would be the price for doing so? Three firsts? Really? Even if he were trading up with Tennessee, would it take that treasure chest of picks to pull it off? I kind of doubt it.

But let's say he's willing to do that. Would we be the trading partner Chippy would want? Maybe, but I'd be a bit skeptical of that. In order to be sure to nab Mariota, Chip would need to move up to Tennessee's spot. But even that rests on a flawed assumption. Some pundits are postulating that Tampa may take Mariota first overall. (How funny would that be if he trades away Bradford and is then stuck with Butt Fumble as his #1 QB?) If that happens, all bets are off. But let's assume Tampa selects Winston; if so, his safest bet would be to move up to number two.

However, if, for some reason, he's somehow confident that Tennessee will pass on Mariota, which is a distinct possibility because Whisenhunt doesn't like spread QBs like him, then we'd have to wait out what happens with Jax and Oakland. I don't think either team is that beholden to anyone such that it would be willing to pass on three (or even two) firsts, especially if all of them are in this year's draft.

If this type of three-way trade happens, it would take a lot of luck and sheer stupidity on the part of the Browns, Titans, Jags, and Raiders for us to land this historic bounty.

But we can only hope, can't we?
