My first question was "who?". After checking out his stats, he was really good in 104 ABs last year and his minor league stats look great but it seems like they could have let him play at least half a season before throwing that kind of loot his way.

Fwiw, he is the #2 prospect. There's been a lot of buzz around him the last year or so. Crushed minor league pitching and projection systems already seen him as an above average/star level player going forward.

That's not to say it isn't without risk of course, but I like it for both parties.

He really does look like the next Mike Trout with those stats but I think it's too much risk for the team to take. But again, the stats look shockingly good and maybe I'm underestimating what younger players can make these days.

I expect to see more of this, especially from smaller market clubs. It's too risky for some of these clubs to not extend players early or they won't be able to afford them.

its 8 years

Diamondbacks signed OF Corbin Carroll to an eight-year, $111 million contract with a $23 million club option for 2031.

The deal, which was agreed to on Saturday, has been officially announced by the Diamondbacks, making Carroll the youngest drafted player in baseball history to sign a nine-figure contract. The 22-year-old outfielder could potentially earn up to $154 million, if the club option and all of the performance-related bonuses are triggered. He's the face of Arizona's rebuilding effort after posting a stellar .830 OPS with four homers and two steals in 115 plate appearances over 32 games last year in his major league debut.

Right.

You get seven years of control. They bought one year.

Which I don’t understand. It’s just giving money away.

The Royals have never given out a $100M contract.. Salvador Perez has the record 4/82

It'll take more than the Carroll deal to lock up Witt, even though it's probably fair.
Hopefully we can do it, but it takes two
