Two players got hurt and Matthews went hurtling into the boards hard trying to get #70.

Can we stop fucking trying here and just rest everyone? Nobody except for idiots and Matthews himself cares if he scores 70 goals instead of 69.

don't worry you have Reavo out there to make sure no one every can possibly get hurt.
i noticed (I'm sure the Wings did too) that his hand was taped, so he couldn't even face-punch if he wanted to.

Timmins is a fucking idiot.

hits a guy pretty hard coming across the crease (fair enough, nice play)
but then anticipates a reaction when the guy gets up, so cross checks him in the face first.

oh, 10 seconds later Kucherov gets his 100th assist, on the resulting powerplay.

TJ Brodie disappointed to score his first in 100+ games.

on a delayed penalty, denied Matthews another chance on the powerplay.

Moving this thread back to Page 1 because, like it or not, in a couple of days their Future will be dominating headlines.

They tried, they failed and there is no coming back.

I saw some people saying Mitch Marner to Utah for Clayton Keller.

Clayton Keller has no leadership.

Considering the number of wives that they have, Mormons seem to score a lot, Mitch ain’t fitting in there

b) run it back
c) there can't really be anything in the middle, right?

Crazy thing is, there's an argument to maybe run it back anyway.
(maybe with a new coach?)
They all have no move clauses, so they will get bent over a barrel to trade anyone, especially at those salaries.
Tavares and Marner are UFA after next season, so would be easier to rebuild at that point.

I'm still hoping for madness and chaos over the summer, but could see another attempt to tinker.

Marner can sign an 8 year deal with a team if he’s traded there first instead of walking as a UFA. If a team thinks he’s an answer to a problem they’ll trade for him and his last year and the Leafs should be able to get something decent in return even if it isn’t going to blow them away - at this point cap space is worth the move, getting him out of town is just in everyone’s best interest at this point.

Reilly’s the other one they should move but if they can’t find a 1D anywhere (who can?) I don’t think he’s going anywhere.

They’ll probably keep one of Domi or Bertuzzi.

They need to get the C off of JT and give it to Matthews. It sucks and it’s not all their fault but the JT signing is going to be looked at as a mistake and his captaincy a byproduct of that mistake.

And that’s about it. The first round pick is early 20s, make the selection unless someone legit dangles a 1D. There are two or three prospects ready to make a jump, hopefully one of those at least works out. This all probably takes at least two years to figure out but it can be figured out.

I was fine giving Tre another year or two to figure this out but I think Shanahan has to answer for this at some point and if you let him go I don’t think you want to saddle a new president with a GM he didn’t choose.

Unless you make Tre the President. Might be what they do here.
Close enough.
