Jeff Paterson: 10 Things I’d like to see from the Canucks next season

sounds good.
don't know about splitting the Sedins, but they just need limited role.
The first half of the piece is pretty much "give a lot of time to the youngsters", and I wouldn't argue against that at all but if it's not done responsibly it can backfire like crazy. Boeser averaged 16:30 in his NHL stint to date. That's plenty for a 20 year old - maybe increase his per game load by a minute as the season progresses and he shows he can handle it but he's playing about the right amount of minutes as it is for a rookie. Goldobin should be worth a few more minutes, Tryamkin maybe can push towards 20. There's a balance there.

Also wouldn't count on whoever they get in the draft being an instant NHLer. I'd say it's at least a 50-50 shot that Patrick or Hischier (assuming Canuck Luck nets them one of those two) might not be NHL-ready. There's nothing wrong with that, and Hischier can be sent to the A.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to see some breakthroughs but if a wishlist includes trading the team's best defenceman and lowering the expectations and workload of 3 of their 4 most skilled forwards the biggest wish I would have for next season is that the team realizes it needs to suck for another year before they start making real progress. Moving Edler will give the Canucks almost $20 mil in cap space in a summer where GM's should be ready to start wheeling and dealing again after this expansion draft bullshit. One thing he should want to see is the team taking contract dumps from other teams sweetened by picks and prospects.

since Jan. 21, they’ve been quite consistently the worst team in the league. They have the fewest points, 19 in 34 games.

They have the fewest goals, and shots. They have the 25th ranked power play, the 29th ranked penalty kill.

That’s nearly half a season spent on a 46-point pace. In no world can a team be on a 46-point pace and claim it’s competitive.

So with one game left the Canucks can move up to 27th spot and potentially drop to 8th overall pick by just going to overtime vs the Oilers tonight (I'm assuming NJ doesn't pick up any points vs Detroit).

What do you think I'm betting on...

The future is bright.

I haven't compared the stats, but is this the worst Canucks season of all time? Will stats really tell that? The Keenan years were bad but at least I was entertained lol. This, this was just pathetic on every level. But at least the youth looks promising. And all could be for nothing if we win tonight. Anything less than a top 2 pick for me is pathetic

Matty, I think I had heard last night that last night's loss was the 12th consecutive home game without a win which sets a new Canucks record for home futility (the previous mark was 11 set in the Canucks inaugural season).

The last Keenan year was 58 points. But no s/o loser point. That was fun in the sense of the shit pulled by Keenan. So much fun to watch unfold. This year reminds me of the futility in the sense that we are headi into a lower talent deft year with a decent position but this year... No Sedins to draft. I think Pugh that we have one of the better youngster core we have had in quite some time. We need a couple game changers this draft for sure.
