Nothing short of Michigan State winning the Big 10 will get them into a BCS bowl game. Please stop discussing us and saying how MSU should be ranked higher. It doesn't matter. Highly rated recruits still won't come here, bowl games will still pass us over for teams we beat and ranked behind us.

I know this was tongue in cheek, but if you ever needed illustration of the polls being strange, unreliable and I might suggest biased towards certain teams in high visibility markets, take a gander at Arizona State.

ASU is #22 in the Harris and USA Today polls, the ones that matter for the BCS. They are 11th in the computers that matter to the BCS and higher in some of the ones that attempt to be predictive and are presumably a bit more "advanced". That's an 11 position disparity, the largest in the rankings and the largest for an AQ team by far.

But polls are dumb, the voters are smart and use their eyes and intuition you say. Okay, that's possible. Maybe we should ask some people who are really smart when it comes to football. You know, say like Vegas.

ASU is the favorite @UCLA, who are 7 and 8 slots higher in the Harris and Coaches Polls.

Caveat: That in no way means I'm confident ASU will win against UCLA. I consider it close to a coin flip game and the team that gets the bounces will probably come out on top, but at the very least, even if ASU loses, UCLA would probably be short changed on the caliber of the win.
