I heard that if Tanaka gets posted next year that it would make the Red Sox a much more serious contender for him because right now they don't really have a spot for him.

If he gets posted the Yankees are going all out for him. The other day Sherman had a article about how it may be better for the Yankees if A-Rod doesn't get suspended, because if he isn't there is no chance they get under that $189 mil payroll, and according to some in the yankees if they can't get under it then they have to be WAY over it otherwise it would look stupid to be at $192 mil or soemthing like that. They would rather be like $220-230 mil. So if they decide to screw it they would probably go hard for Tanaka, willing to pay what it takes to land him. And also go after a closer, possibly trade for Jonathan Papelbon.

But the tax is on the difference, is it not? It's not a fixed penalty just for going over. So why would paying 40% of $3 million be stupid yet paying 40% of $41 million would somehow be smarter? It would be different if they were getting dinged a fixed amount.

Taxes in Texas are much nicer than they are in NY.

Actually it doesnt matter:suds:

f opening day is the best day of the year for professional athletes, then April 15 -- tax day -- is probably the worst. Especially now that 20 of the 24 states with franchises in at least one of the four major pro leagues -- the NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball -- have laws that require visiting athletes to pay state income tax for each game they play there.:suds:

It's bad enough the Sinstripes got Ellsbury away from my Red Sox.

Thank you, Mr. Choo, for turning the turning New Dork's offer down!

choo is out of his mind for not taking that deal.

not really, he got almost the same deal without the overhyped media attention, high cost of living, etc...Choo will be more than happy.
