We have signed Quentin to a AAA deal, thoughts?

My thought, unless he can pitch it won't help our most pressing issues at the moment. Although, if we are going to keep running Cruz in RF he may make a decent full time DH. If that's the case, one of Rugg's or Weeks may have to go.

Interesting, another corner outfield right handed hitter.

I still say we need another bull pen arm oin the big club

I read he is going to see time at first base.

I think we are just seeing if he can still hit. Which if he can hit anything like his career numbers I would rather have him on the team over Weeks. Basically we are getting a look at a $8 million dollar player for cheap. If he works out then great if not then I don't think we lose anything this type of player is a dime a dozen these days for the mariners... Past prime right handed corner outfielder or another RH platoon guy

Look like a platoon situation with LoMo.

I do agree that it does not solve our most current needs right now which is depth in the bullpen. We're really thin out there and I don't like it.

I read that too, but if that's the case then one would have to ask "why not Montero"? 54 AB's at a .352 clip, once again, why not?

I agree with you. Personally I think the benefit to replacing a player on the current 25 man roster with a guy with options is that it allows more flexibility for making adjustments to the roster, a luxury we currently do not have and still wouldn't have by adding Quentin.

I think there will be some roster moves regarding position players within a month. Which is around the same time Quentins opt out kicks in which I think is mid May. I think the big picture for this team will become a little clearer at that time.

He's off the scrap heap. You get him for league minimum just to see if he has any gas in the tank. It doesn't have to be an either/or. You can have both and see who does more for your team. And it costs you next to nothing.

Does this mean we're going to trade Ackley for a SP?

No. At least not because of Quentin. Q will be 1B and DH if anything at all. Guy can't stay healthy and who even knows if he has anything left in the tank.

A good contingency who would have to play with a broken arm to do much worse than the people he might replace are doing right now.

If those people keep up their non-contribution, a contending team has to do something. This is one of many options a competent GM puts into place well in advance.

I agree that it means we're in really terrible shape if Quentin ends up on the roster.

We are about 1 out of 100 in those 'nothing to lose' type signings.

And it sucks because it seems Jack likes to give not just one but multiple roster spots for guy who fit in that category.
