As a Charger fan I immediately thought of a similar play: 2005, last game of the season, Chargers out of the playoffs in a meaningless game. Drew Brees fumbles, dives head first into the pile, and tears his labrum. The rest is history.

Brees was competing in a meaningless game. Newton was hesitant to dive in the pile - in a Super Bowl? His career may end up being defined by that one play.
