I was referring to the Mets. IN all seriousness though if I owned a football team I might give Mangini a shot now that he's been around a bit more and learned a very valuable lesson about being the flavor of the month. That team Rex took to the AFC championship games were basically built by Mangini

lol, oh in that case the mets can have at em.

The Browns need a coach and GM that have been around for a while and know how to build a team.

They've just had some bad luck. I mean, who would have thought Johnny Football would have blown up in their face like that? Wait......

A lot of free agent signings are bust, you need to build through the draft.

Talking about this on PTI now, interesting move, would be interesting to see if a baseball guy can turn that team around.

Breaking news: Looks like Joe Thomas is making the move to 3rd base.

I had a dream last night about NFL football teams. It was quite colorful and full of energy. However, the team from Cleveland was brown.

Neither had I, but I am not really in the know as far as front office titles. My guess is he will help identify value. So you'll have a scouting report and he and his team will look at the free agent list to help determine which players are over valued, fair, and undervalued so they can make strategic personnel decisions that way to stay within the cap. But that's just me scatter shooting. Could mean something else entirely.

He's going to have Manziel line up as a Gunner on kicks and rotate in Terrelle Pryor at center.

lulz. Billy Football isn't gonna be on the team next season. They might keep Pryor around to get something out of him at WR though. He has some potential.

If you draft a guy based on this concept and he has a great year, he'll probably hold out for the big bucks the following year then dog it once he gets $$$$$$. It's the NFL way!

I don't think it matters that he is a baseball guy given the role they plan to give him.

Moneyball is always about arbitraging undervalue skills until they hit their true market price.

The question will be whether they can come up with metrics that effectively quantify and qualify skills.

It's actually a little more complicated than that. Many factors not accounted for in the metrics go into determining success or failure.

Sounds about right.

I think the Browns are going about this the right way.....overhaul the front office. Hire a coach and STICK WITH HIM for 5 years unless he's completely incompetent. They can't build anything firing people 1 and 2 years in, or attracting top talent to work there.

I understand he probably has lots of translatable skills, but it's still funny. You can imagine the interview process:

Cleveland: Now, you're from New York, so you've got big-market experience and ideas, right?
DePodesta: Ummm, yeahhh...lookit, you guys do know that I'm with THE METS? The National League BASEball team?

My old agency (social service org) had a CSO. The person was mainly responsible for short-term strategic planning (long-term was done more by the board of directors); in other words, the "five year plan." I think it can be a valuable cog for an organization that needs to make some huge culture shifts, and clearly the Browns need to change their culture.

Hire a coach and STICK WITH HIM for 5 years unless he's completely incompetent.

It won't matter how competent the next HC is as long as the idiot owner is 100% incompetent.
