I liked his pre game interview...asked what his goals were he said "perfect game", then smiled and said he just wanted to "give the team a chance to win".
I'm a believer that a team has to have a lefty starting pitcher or two to win a world series...because only 5 have done it without one in the last 50 years, and one of them played a team without one too.
So, I'm hoping he makes it impossible to ignore him.
Not going to lie, this is the most excited ive been to watch a pitcher in awhile. I've been reading his box scores on a pretty regular basis for quite awhile now. I've just never had a chance to see him pitch. If I didn't have so much shit to do tonight I would be at the game, but organic chemistry and children take away any aspirations of doing whatever you want whenever you want.
Hamilton is being caught sometimes because he's cocky.
At times, he dares the catcher to throw him out and catchers, not usually the dumbest guys on the team, signal the pitcher to give them something they can use.
Hamilton can outrun the throw if he gets one leg over the other. If not, it's a close play at 2nd.
Close sometimes = out.
Its pretty amazing for a guy they knew could run but didnt have high hopes for being a complete player. Guess the scouts were wrong. Probably a good thing that Baker is gone, he would have just been using him as a late inning replacement and never seen the potential.
They say he's had a tweaked hammy all year- imagine how fast he would be with healthy legs ?
His RISP is amazing. Probably not sustainable, but I have to chuckle when I see his RBI total as a leadoff hitter is about what BP's is in the cleanup and 3 spot in the lineup. I think that speaks to Hamilton's suprizing success, and BP's normal output in a misplaced middle of the order role. Given Frazier and BP's numbers, I would probably switch them in the lineup, just in case offense becomes more difficult again, after the Reds aren't playing the Cubs anymore.
Billy Hamilton has surpassed my expectations in his ability to hit MLB pitching, although his OBP is a little low due to not walking much. Pitchers challenge him more trying to avoid the free passes and he has done a nice job taking advantage of it. The production with RISP has been huge for this team. With gold glove defense and supremely better range it's another area that he has been an upgrade over Choo this season. Choo only hit .240 with RISP last season, but Hamilton will never hit for as much power or have the OBP Choo did. Overall BH has filled the void everyone thought would exist when Choo signed with Texas. Can't beat the price, $500k verses the $14M Choo is making in his first year of a 7 yr/ $130M deal.
