Part of the problem is the Bills organization, despite having injury issues every single year, continues to fail to plan for them.

Any team that is about to trot out Jeff Tuel to be your Week 1 starter at QB is doing something VERY wrong. That should NEVER happen.

It was bizarre for a team so worried about injuries to add (wait for it)...Kevin Kolb to their roster to add depth. He promptly stubbed his toe and was never heard from again.

So while every team deals with injuries, the good ones plan accordingly. The Bills aren't in that category. God forbid Watkins gets injured...everyone will be wondering where that Stevie guy went.

I agree to an extent I didnt like the Kolb signing from the start. To be fair that was mainly Nix and he was an idiot I have more faith in Whaley. Second things like the secondary you can only have so many players and if you have enough injuries than people who should only be on special teams are starting. It all comes down to why do we get so many injuries every year.

The Kevin Kolb signing wasn't very wise, but what team carries 3 QBs anymore? When your vet and your 1st round rookie both go down early, you're most likely going to be knocking on doors or searching practice squads for a 3rd QB.

The Bills need to learn from that. It's not the first time they've had this problem. They need to go into each season EXPECTING the starting QB to go down. This has been a team lacking an elite QB since Jim Kelly so they need to focus on depth. If you are going to trot out a backup caliber QB to start for you (Losman, arguably EJ, Tuel, Rob Johnson, etc.), you better have a few more backup caliber QBs lying in wait (not practice squad caliber guys).

They are the worst team in the NFL when it comes to assessing QB talent. They discard Tavaris Jackson and Vince Young in favor of...Jeff Tuel? None of those three are good options, but T-Jack had to be better than Jeff Friggin' Tuel.

Loving the "First year in Marrone's system" stuff. It's part of the Bills cycle: Go cheap on head coach and make stupid hire...unimpressive in first year ("first year in system, everyone be patient")...unimpressive second year (find silver linings like an increase in wins from 4 to 6, or finishing season strong, "next year is the year")...garbage third year. FIRED. REPEAT CYCLE.

I honestly think the Marrone hire was the most inspired hire we've had in a while. I was disappointed with the ones before him, but was happy about this one.

Manuel was just a rookie last year surrounded by a pretty poor offensive line that was also having issues with injuries

A mostly young group of recievers with exception of one receiver, and we had injuries there too.

For being a "developmental" QB prospect entering the draft I think Manuel did good.

The other QBs were really frikken awful though

but we are much better now then we were in the days of JP Losman and Kelly Holcomb battling for the starting job :L:L

The biggest problem in that cycle is duration, especially if the whole front office including GM are part of the upheaval. 3 years is barely enough to reconfigure the roster.

The duration argument, if I'm reading it right, only makes sense if you have a GM/Coach that are showing marked signs of improvement in the three years. The cycle only lasts three years because it's always three years of utter failure.

Another Bills FO tradition: At the slightest hint success could be on the horizon (a 2-game win streak, three big games in a row, etc.), they dish out a contract extension to someone that doesn't deserve it (Fitzpatrick, Jauron). It's really sad.

I loved how we traded a draft pick for TJax and gave him an extension and he was never on the active roster. Then resigns with Seattle log how the Bills operate.

However, when the front office cycles every 3-4 years (and continues to flip-flop between the 3-4 and 4-3), the roster never gets a chance to gel. Hopefully Marrone is the right hire and sticks around for a while; continuity can be a huge plus.
