For me, I'm relatively young, but X-Files have to be up there.

I remember in the early to mid 1990s, as a kid, begging my mother to let me stay up an hour longer during those Friday nights in the very early seasons.

I do not watch a ton of TV, but for an overall list:

Was great for a while but unraveled the last 1.5 seasons. The ending ended on multiple unnecessary downers.

It was killer for a few years though.

Head: Breaking Bad. It's obvious and perfect for several reasons. It's so good the spinoff may end up being better.

Heart: Futurama. Aside from her guilty pleasure (Full House) it's my wife's favorite show. We have watched the whole series a dozen times on Netflix. The themes of destiny and true love drive the series and it gives us the perfect everyman. Plus the time gaps in production keep the show fresh. Season 9 is just as fresh as the beginning-that never happens in shows that span decades.

Balls: Daredevil. It's way too early to tell but season one was spectacular (dat fight scene) and the next season is supposedly better. I'd like to put Bojack here but a comic/action series with excellent acting and depth should make something impressive.

Honorable mention: Firefly because it should have created a new genera in television and fuck you Fox.

If you're only including a single season of a TV show, IMO that makes it more of a mini series. And if you're including min series then you have to include Band of Brothers. Which is maybe the only way that The Wire could possibly even be challenged.
