Seeds are from Ranking the Heisman Trophy Winners of the BCS Era on NFL and CFB Success

*Bush is not included on the list, so I put him at #16. Completes the bracket. Ranking is also by their CFB and NFL careers, but it is the best list I found.

Vote solely based on their Heisman winning season.

This Week (Wed-Sun)

This Thread - Quarterfinals - #1 seed Cam Newton (2010) vs #9 seed Tim Tebow (2007)
Other Thread - Consolation First Round - #8 seed Robert Griffin III (2011) vs #16 seed Reggie Bush (2005, vacated)

No repeat matchups in this bracket (winner of 1st matchup wins). Loser of semis goes for 3rd.
Higher seed wins tie breaker.

This one is actually tough for me. I think Newton was a more natural athlete and is harder to stop, but nobody put their heart into it like Tebow.

Tebow was the stronger collegiate leader in my opinion, but Newton was the stronger/better playmaker on a worse team in my opinion and thus the more deserving heisman winner.

Realistically, Newton will probably win this whole thing.

I would say Tebow was on a worse team.

Florida went 9-4 that year and only 3 SEC teams had double digit wins and Florida went 1-2 vs them. Auburn went 14-0 and were NCs the year Newton won. SEC had 4 teams with double digit wins, all in that same division.

But I would agree that Newton was the better natural athlete between the two.

Sure, but without Cam Auburn wins what? 3 or 4 games that year?

How many NFL players, or even guys drafted by the NFL were on that auburn team?

The TE and LT were both like 7th round picks.

Was anyone else on that O even drafted?

And that comeback against Bama was simply amazing. The stuff of legend.

The Florida team was loaded with NFL talent.

I am probably exaggerating when I say 3 or 4, but they won 7 of those games by one possession. And I would venture to guess they would have lost more than that without him.

If you go by the qualities the Heisman is supposed to represent, I don't see how it can be anyone but Tebow.

Florida fell apart after Tebow left.

Newton was actually supposed to be the Florida QB for Florida after Tebow, but got kicked off the team for stealing laptops. And then of course, there is the whole thing with getting paid to go to Auburn and the scandal all year long.

And that is what you consider best Heisman?

Seems to me you are just taking the easy way and looking at the NFL results without any context on the actual season.

Newton was the better player. And did it with less talent around him.

Far less really.

Except that after Tebow left Florida dropped to 8-5 and then 7-6. After Cam left Auburn went 8-5 and then 3-9. So I would say that Auburn fell apart a little more than Florida.

And no, I am not considering the NFL at all. Cam is by far the better athlete. Look at Auburns schedule, the results, then remembmer how big of a difference Cam made and you think Auburn wins even half? I am taking context of the actual season, actually... the argument should be that THAT is the only part I placed into proper Heisman context because Tebow was clearly the more mature and displayed more integrity.

Cam > Tebow. Nuff said.

Percy Harvin is a pretty big piece of leave off of florida's list.

Also, totally forgot about Mosley. But damn, that has to be the worst offense (NFL talent wise) for a BCS champ.

Thanks, I did miss that. I will say that Florida's defense was loaded with guys that would go on to be NFL draftees. Auburn's starting line-up had a few.

No worries.

Just wanted to point it out cause it's probably the swing vote on these two abysmal supporting casts.

But I knew something was missing. So I clicked the link and saw harvin and was like "doh! obviously Harvin was there"

That's not what the Heisman is.

Most Outstanding Player.

Being the better player with a far inferior cast is most outstanding.

Do the defenses. Auburn's defense had guys like Nick Fairley on it.
