1B Brandon Belt (right knee inflammation)
Expected return: Mid-June
Belt has had trouble with his right knee for years, requiring two surgeries and a stint on the injured list last season. The latest flare-up required the knee to be drained twice, as well as a cortisone shot. Belt, who has been sidelined since May 22, is continuing to ramp up with baseball activities and could return during the Giants' upcoming series against the Royals. -- Maria Guardado (Last updated: June 12)

SF Giants: Brandon Belt nears return; Matthew Boyd suffers setback

Belt (right knee inflammation) missed his 23rd straight game Monday but said he could be activated by the end of this series.

"SAN FRANCISCO — Walking up the tunnel to the Giants clubhouse Monday afternoon, Brandon Belt ran into a couple reporters.

“Here’s an inside scoop,” he said, “I’ll be back soon.”

When?

“Probably this series.”

Belt, however, wasn’t activated for San Francisco’s series opener Monday night against the Kansas City Royals. It was the 23rd game he has missed with inflammation in his right knee. The Giants host the Royals for two more after Monday, then hit the road for a seven-game swing through Pittsburgh and Atlanta."
