There is LITERALLY no such thing as a "complete game" anymore. The starter is supposed to go 6 innings(7 if the manager is feeling really adventurous) and hand it over to the bullpen now.

There have been 14 complete games TOTAL this year(Shelby Miller leads with 2 of them), and a mere 5 shutouts this season(Miller again with 2). I don't know how this compares with years ago, but it still looks really sad to me.

Yeah, individual pitchers used to throw 20 complete games in a season, now an entire TEAM is lucky if they get 4 or 5 in a year.

I'm looking at 1995....there were 10 guys with 6, or more, complete games(Maddux(10), McDowell(8), Mussina, Erickson, Leiter(7), Wakefield, Johnson, Cone, Valdez, Wells(6).

Now, I doubt we see anyone with 6 or more CG's. Unless Shelby Miller plans to do it, that is.

It's early in the season. They're still probably stretching some of these guys out.

Lets all laugh at Colorado for having one of the worst offenses in baseball at 5,000 feet elevation.

Yes, the Mets send a message that they will only be totally violated for two consecutive games before they decide enough's enough. DeGrom with a great bounce-back performance

20 CGs a season?!?! You must be old as fuck.

A very gay 65 years old!

I wasn't around for this, but Bob Gibson completed 28 out of his 34 starts in 1968, and 13 of those were shutouts.

I thought the same, but it isn't THAT long ago. Fernando Valenzuela was the last to do it(20 CG in 1986).

Blyleven had 24 in 1985.
Guidry had 21 in 1983.
Rick Langford had 28(!) in 1980.

That's it for the last 35 years.

Wow....since 2000 there had only been 1 pitcher to have 10 or more CG's in a season! James Shields in 2011.

Mad Bum solo shot of Kershaw in the bottom of the third gives SF a 1-0 lead.

Kyle Seager ejected by the ump. LOL He was 2-2 before that. Guess he thinks he's Bryce Harper!

Yep. Then they lowered the mound the next year for those pussy-batters.
