However, having a game with at least some sort of intrigue and implications in August is pretty cool. It means Nov1 is going to be a stinker, but that is what you get for meaningful football early.

Just glad we will get to end 2014 with a win

So much for my passionate argument that the SEC won't put an important IC game on Thursday night:

AUG 28, 2014 – TAMU at South Carolina Gamecocks

And, LawDawg goes down in flames.

TAMU needs to learn how to do the quasi-bye thing better. Having a bye before you play ULM doesn't make any sense.

By the way, flip them all the shit you want for OOC, but look at the IC schedule:

Bama, LSU, Auburn (the renewed version), and Ole Miss (getting better)

Then USCe to open the season, and then Missouri. That's 6 tough games against teams that will all finish in the top 25 this year, probably 3 or 4 in the top 10.

So they get two weeks to rest up for playing at Auburn?

At least their draw from the East is respectable: Missouri and @South Carolina

Compare to Bama:
2013: @UK (2-8; 0-6 SEC), Tennessee (4-6, 1-5 SEC)

and compare to Bama's National Champion seasons..

2012: @Missouri (5-7, 2-6 SEC), @Tennessee (5-7, 1-7 SEC)

2011: @Florida (7-6, 3-5 SEC), Tennessee (5-7, 1-7 SEC)

2009: @UK (7-6, 3-5 SEC), South Carolina (7-6, 3-5 SEC), Tennessee (7-6, 4-4 SEC)

So Missouri is respectable next year, but weren't last year? And, normally one wouldn't list UT and UF as being easy teams to beat. It's cyclical ... Bama is lucky to have caught those programs when they were down.

It will get a lot of attention being the season opener. Not a bad thing. I wouldn't want to see Thursday games after the first Saturday.
Also the first game on the new SEC Network. Unfortunately, the network may create more of these throughout the season in order to offer more games.

Based on the teams quality of this year, I expect a top30-40 strength of schedule for A&M at the start of next year.

We won't know for sure how good aTm's draw from the East is until next year. But we do know that Bama's draw from the East was garbage this year and all of their championship years under Saban.

You do realize that the East was down as a whole most of those years and that the SEC West as a division of the SEC has generally been deemed as better than any conference by itself?

SEC West: Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas(who was a top10 team until the scandal). And now you add in Texas A&M.

And actually, it still IS down this year given the current state of Georgia and Florida. There is Missouri from the east and...South Carolina. Who else?

And aTm plays both of them next year. Bama plays neither of them next year (Bama has UF, @Tennessee)

To be fair to Bama, they at least usually schedule a non-cupcake OOC game. Next year they have West Virginia in Atlanta's Georgia Dome

Sweet, and no JFF for that game!
