Well it was from back when there were 11 game regular seasons so it isn't recent. That's for sure.

Obviously depends on the other teams, but maybe the 20-25 range if ranked at all. Hell, that looks comparable to VT's schedule (and outcomes) this year and we aren't even close to sniffing the rankings.

This team beat 3 Ok teams and one mediocre team with winning records and won two more vs poor teams.
W 9-7 Away vs (8-3-0)
W 19-14 Home vs (7-4-0)
W 17-0 Away vs (6-4-0)
W 14-2 Home vs (5-4-1)
W 26-7 Neut vs 3-7-0
W 20-6 Home vs (2-8-0)

It lost to the only good team on its schedule. Lost to two more that were average at best,
L 7-21 Neut vs (10-1-0)
L 21-27 Home vs (5-5-0)
L 12-19 Away vs (4-5-1)

Tied a bad team.

I believe it's Texas... and if you look at the teams they played and what they were ranked at the time it makes more sense. ... and frick it's the 50's.

Seriously, this team looks almost identical to VT this year.

Wins
42-24 Away vs (9-3)
15-10 Away vs (9-3)
29-21 Home vs (9-3)
17-10 Away vs (7-5)
27-17 Home vs (6-6)
19-9 Home vs (6-6)
16-6 Away vs (2-10)
45-3 Home vs (2-10) FCS

Losses
35-10 Neutral vs (11-1)
13-10 Home vs (10-2)
34-27 Away vs (7-5)
27-24 Home vs (7-5)

And a special LOL to UVA for being the only FBS team we played that didn't make a bowl.

I am completely and consistently baffled why UVA, UNC, and NCSU can't field good teams. What, these three continually suck balls, and engineering schools like VT and GT keep going bowling, with occasional stellar seasons?

Doesn't make sense. Welsh had UVA in perpetual respectability, but what is the deal these past few years with these teams.

Seems like recently, any time one of those schools lands a good coach, he ends up leaving after having only begun to build a winning program. The ACC is the last odd power conference that seemingly places more significance on basketball than football. The B1G and PAC try to do both well but ratings drive CFB over CBB, the SEC and B12 are clearly football first with their specialist schools in KU and UK. The BigEast was the only other BCS conference that was huge basketball, but they have been shattered and are a shell of their former selves.

So, a general lack of historical significance in CFB combined with the conference's seeming preference for CBB and you have your answer why UNC, UVA, and NCST can't seem to field great or even consistently competitive football teams.

Texas beat the #4 team in their last game. That got them 409 points in the AP poll from over 300 voters, although each voter only voted for 10 teams. Obviously several voters felt beating #4 was worth a top 10 vote.

The coaches brought Texas up from 6 points the previous week to 36 in the final poll. When 36 points can make you #11, interesting things can happen.
