PC on BrocknDanny said they could reach out to him to fill in for Thurmond. He was here in training camp so he knows the playbook and other players on the team. Dose any one like this idea? He would bring experience into the locker room if he was still on the team come playoff time. Also if Thurmond comes back for the Rams game would we cut him again or try to find a spot on the team for the playoff run?

As long as he is in shape, I would be good with this.

That's the key to it for me. If he's in shape, bring him in.

Looks to me he has been.

Winfield retired at the end of the summer, but he never filed retirement papers and has remained in shape while waiting to see if the right situation to return came along this year.

Did you guys all forget preseason and the reason Winfield isn't on the team already? He couldn't keep up with receivers that are not even playing in the league right now. Don't even bother calling him. I could see bringing in Trufant for insurance purposes, but he will likely never even be "active" for any games even if they do sign him.

Trufant was terrible in 2012 playing in the nickel. He was a really good player for us from 2003-2010 but since he went on the IR in the first quarter of 2011 he has not been the same. I mean you know he is not NFL ready when even the Jags cut him.

Seahawks are in trouble here. Winfield was cut for a reason, and if I were him I wouldn't feel too happy about crawling back to the same team that cut him and forced him to retire.

I didn't really even seen Winfield on the field that much during the preseason. I have to wonder how much of his departure was the solid performance by Thurmond and how much of it was his possible decline. I say give it a shot if he is in shape. As cool as it would be to see Trufant out there again I do not think it is in our best interest given his age, injury history and likely further regression.

Winfield, a current Seahawk on practice Squad (DeShawn Shead), FA's.......whatever.
I'm very confident that the FO will pick a guy that can fill the job.

I'm hoping Shead is the guy they like.

I was pretty stunned when he got cut. Hopefully he's stayed in shape and there's no hard feelings. It's not like we need a shut down corner. We just need a guy who can make 2nd or 3rd option receivers look bad. You have to wonder if he knew something like this was coming down the pipe. It seems like everyone involved knows about this crap weeks before it hits the press. Maybe he's been working out and has a couple of suitcases packed.

This was only from March so I can't imagine he's fallen that far off. I think the Winfield cut had as much to do with money as anything. He can still be a solid CB opposite of Sherman I think. At least I hope so.

"
Winfield finished the season with a +25.5 grade, narrowly edging Richard Sherman (+25.1) to the top spot in our CB rankings, but that’s only part of the story. If you look purely at coverage, Sherman’s grade (+26.4) is almost four times higher than Winfield’s (+7.0), and there is no doubt that Sherman was the superior player in that regard last season.
He may have been atop the overall grade rankings among cornerbacks, but nobody at PFF will try and tell you that Antoine Winfield was the best corner in football last season.
That being said, his grade was impressive for a player of his age and, perhaps most notably of all, he graded positively across the board in every area we analyze for the position. Though he may not have been able to touch the top corners when it came to coverage alone, he still ranked inside the Top 20 in that area and teamed with it an ability that is completely unmatched by his cornerback peers — his play against the run and the short passing game.
Against the run Winfield’s grade was almost twice as good as any other corner. On the season he made 44 stops (tackles that constitute an offensive failure), which was a dozen more than the next best player. Of those stops, 26 were in the run game, logging one on 7.3% of his run snaps, again the top mark by a corner by some distance and one that is actually closer to the norm for linebackers than it is among corners."

"He has an unrivaled ability to read and react to runs or short screens and passes to his side of the field, practically removing them as a viable option for the offense he faces. At his best, Darrelle Revis can take one receiver out of the game, but rarely does he make a huge impact against the run or on quick screens to other receivers on the same side of the formation. Winfield won’t take away a receiver the way Revis or Sherman can, but he can virtually take away an entire side of the field when it comes to the run game or bubble screens and other tricky plays such as end-arounds or reverses..........Teams looking at Winfield now shouldn’t be fooled by his age and relative lack of coverage skills compared to the elite corners in the league. Winfield has shown he can still play outside and cover well, allowing just 9.6 yards per reception on the 60 catches he gave up, and not allowing a touchdown or catch longer than 41 yards all season, but what he brings to a team and a defense goes far beyond that." ~ PFF

With Thurmond and Browner both doing their best Willie Nelson-Zach Galafanakis impressions I think it would be a prudent move to grab Winfield. Especially after reading the report that I posted above. I mean, who else is better right now?

Does anyone remember the 2004 Patriots and how they used Troy Brown as a CB.

Just saying with our depth at WR

Harvi, Baldwin, tate kearse. Did i forget someone???????

Nah, you mentioned everyone but I don't quite see the depth you are talking about. With only 4 healthy WR's which one do suggest plays iron man football and plays offense and defense?

Winfield got torched by Wes Welker but who doesn't.

Winfield didn't separate himself from our younger cb's so why would we keep a 36 yo with similar talent to a 25 yo? Makes no sense.

I'd rather have AW over Tru.

Per Adam Schefter -- Seattle will sign former 49ers CB Perrish Cox if he passes his physical today and team also is considering placing CB Brandon Browner IR.
