Why is the #4 team in the SEC West who just lost their Heisman QB and 2 other first rounders ranked #11?

isn't the "gauntlet" of Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss St, Vandy, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky going to tear them up?

It's the team that Johnny built.

I am not so sure about USC. Michigan State was gutted on defense and that is their identity. I am sure that is low at all. Auburn won a lot of close games. Some would say they won a couple on abject luck. It is not hard to believe that they lose a couple of those this year. List their best OL by far. The defense is still a huge question mark. I like them closer to 10 than 1, until I see some improvement. I disagreed with Clemson. This is a straight mathematical formula, so there will be a few anomalies

Michigan State's offense will be much better having the spring and starting off the season knowing who their QB is going to be. The defense will take a step back I believe. Dennard is someone that just can't be replaced easily for Michigan State who does not have the best recruiting classes. A lot of the rest of the defense was more of a plug and play, next man up so it should be interesting to see what they can do. Only one Michigan State player was drafted so obviously the NFL didn't think much of one of the top 5 defenses over the last 4 years.

I really like Narduzzi and think he should be up for a big job. I would expect a couple early lessons though for the defense, before they click. I just dont see it as a big call to expect a little slide out of MSU, especially considering last yr was their best yr in a long time, return only 11 starters (4 on defense), and they are not quite at the recruiting level where they just throw the next 4-5 star in.

I expect a big slide in the defense and a moderate uptick in the offense. That being said, last year was a joke of a schedule. No OSU, Wisconsin, or Penn State. 8-4 to 9-3 is what I am expecting, hinging on what we do against Oregon.

that would probably mean the ranking is high if anything in your view. That is why I posted it. MSU is lower here than most pre-season polls and here you are agreeing with it

IMO:

A&M--too high considering who they lost (JM)
South Carolina--they always seem to start in the TOP 10 and then implode and lose at least two games (most of which they shouldn't)
USC--really? New coach and all? Way too high
Oklahoma--I'm biased they're my second most favorite team BUT they too low
UCLA--Again, lower than they should be.

I do believe that at year's end they will be in the 20's for rankings. But again, I am a pessimist and would like to be pleasantly surprised, rather than expecting another top 5 finish and up 25.
