id put vinny testaverde in over luck 5 times. played in 3 decades. how many #1 overall QB's have had more offensive success than testaverde?

there arent many #1 overall QB's who have had more success statistically. aikman maybe? bledsoe?

i did a thread on best #1 overall QB's once. vinny stacks up fairly. he threw for 3k+ yards for 4 different teams. 3k and 20+ TD's for 3 teams (almost did it for dallas to make it 4). not many guys have done that. he also got stuck on some really, really bad teams. you dont start 214 games for no reason.

Luck would have if he didn’t retire. Vick is arguably a much better offensive player than Testaverde.

Plus, comparison to other #1 draft picks is meaningless, so I’m not sure why that factors into whether Testaverde was good or not. He was good enough to play a really long time and convince a bunch of teams to give him a chance. And he almost always sucked, with a couple exceptions.

Sam Bradford has thrown for 3,000 yards and 19+ touchdowns for 3 teams. Is he good, too?

Luck probably needed a few more years before retiring to pull out this kind of argument. Sorry- just not enough meat on the bone. Perhaps undoubtedly the best QB to retire before age 30.

No...but Bradford has only started 39% of the games that Testaverde did. Like I said, Testaverde was just good enough to convince teams to keep giving him a chance. That doesn’t mean he was good.

statistically, hes a top 15 QB over 3 eras. 80's. 90's. 2000's. he saw all the rule changes that helped QB's. he played before and after them.

no, he is 8th all time in 4th quarter comebacks. hes a top 15 all time passer statistically. i think someday he gets in, as does bledsoe.
ive made the case for both over the years with metrics like the above.
