Australian pro golfer reportedly kidnapped, beaten up in Hawaii

HONOLULU -- An Australian golfer was reportedly kidnapped, beaten, robbed and dropped off near a wine bar in Hawaii on Friday night after missing the cut at the Sony Open.

The Golf Channel reported Saturday that during the Sony Open telecast Robert Allenby was in a wine bar Friday night when he became separated from his caddie and a friend from Australia. With his left eye bruised and swollen shut, Allenby was unable to remember anything except being dumped in a gutter near a park of homeless people.

"You think...that happens in the movie, not real life," Allenby told The Associated Press by phone Sunday. "I'm just happy to be alive."

Allenby posted a photo to his private Facebook account showing a bloodied scrape on his forehead and the bridge of his nose. He said that came from being tossed from the trunk of a car. He said the bruise on his left eye must have come from being beaten in the car.

"I don't know what they hit me with between the eyeballs, whether a fist or a baseball bat," he said. "Whatever it was, it hurts."

You got my drift. I'm not saying he didn't get robbed, but I get the sense that he may have ventured off the beaten path (pardon the pun) and encountered the wrong type folks.

Exactly...He left the restaurant, bar, or wherever he was by himself...unless he was going back to his hotel...1 flag raised...a bookie might kick his ass, but probably wouldn't rob him...I'm thinking he was trying to score something and went to the wrong place.

It is a FACT that there has been a long standing issue(s) between the local Hawaiians and the Aussies. Usually contained to the surf culture, it seems to have spread out to the private golf clubs as well.

CBS Sports had the story in their golf section..I read it this morning. NO kidnapping, just a hellva night out on the town. He got "splaining to do" Lucy.

RA leave the wine bar at 11pm...caddy as well, but he goes back to the hotel...RA walks into a titty bar at midnite w/ 3 unknowns...homeless guy sees RA face down on the ground 50 feet from the back exit of the titty bar...at 1 am the homeless guy sees RA 100 feet away from the back exit of the titty bar.

So in less than 2 hours from leaving a wine bar RA has racked up a 3500 buck titty bar bill and is face down unconscious?

I get the unconscious deal, but the 3500 spent in 1 hour in a titty bar seems excessive. Someone working in that titty bar knows more.
