Caveat Emptor UCLA...this made me laugh, he hasn't even won with his own players yet, I would never give anyone more than 5 years in sports. The rich get richer for not doing their job, must be nice.

I think he is a good coach. I like Fran more, but I don't think Alford was a bad coach. And if UCLA wants to risk the money, good for them.

were you around when he was coaching Iowa? NW Louisiana State ring a bell, Pierre Pierce, all the other things that happened? We will see when he has his own recruited players in there and coaching them...I agree to disagree with you.

I never hated Alford as much as the average Iowa fan. But his floundering NCAA results spoke volumes. He was the white version of George Raveling - could recruit well but when it counted couldn't do much with the talent on the court.

Tom Davis>Fran>Raveling>Alford>a billy goat>Lickliter in terms of coaching since the mid-80s. Fran could very well surpass Dr. Tom in the next few years if he gets a few good tourney runs in him.

there was a 30 for 30 tonight on ESPN about the point shaving in 78 at Boston College, now I was 8 years old, and ESPN wasn't really born that much back then so I guess I missed the whole thing, but Dr Tom was the coach at that time, so weird to see him back then with pretty much the same haircut as a young coach, interesting story to see as I flipped back and forth from the ball game

Watched that 30 for 30 yesterday......didn't paint Dr. Tom in such a great light. But that story was fascinating and I had no idea that Jimmy (DeNiro) character from the Goodfellas movie was indicted on point shaving charges relating to this. I always thought it was due to the Lufthansa heist.

I didn't catch that either, but haven't seen Goodfellas in a long time, will have to go back and watch it.
