Just pointing out what a big homer you are. It has nothing to do with either the Rangers or Astros.
Short, but great peak. 2x MVP, should have been a 3x MVP.
Murphy: 46.5 career WAR, 42.4 from 1980-87, four 6+ WAR seasons
Nomar: 44.2 career WAR (in almost 3000 fewer plate appearances than Dale), 41 WAR from 1997-2003 (including the 2001 season where Nomar played only 21 games), six 6+ WAR seasons
Nomar arguably has a better peak but you don't see me arguing for him in the HOF. I think Murphy and Mattingly fall in the same category. They all had strong peaks, but did little outside of those seasons and those seasons make up for almost all of their career value. I just don't think the peaks are strong enough to make up for that.
Lou should've got in first imo.Great to see Alan Trammell in the Hall of Fame, although something appears to be missing.
HOFer Jack Morris, has a nice ring to it eh?I've already stated before how I've felt about Morris, but I'm kind of glad people will finally STFU about him.
So when do the Dennis Martinez and Tim Wakefield HOF campaigns begin?
That's fair.
I'm also a little biased since he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met, but being nice isn't a HOF metric. I'll still pull for him to get in though.
I was always a strong no for Jack Morris making the HOF... but I think I have to change my mind... look at the potential HOF pitchers who started their careers in the 70s... it was a TERRIBLE decade for SPs to start their careers...
Jack Morris is surprisingly the best of them... at least when you talk about the whole career...
that's not a ringing endorsement
that's not a ringing endorsement
no it certainly is not... But you got to be compared to your peers as much as you are judged by your accomplishments...
a weak decade might be just that, or there could be an underlying reason for the decade to be so weak...
Maybe GNG lives exactly between Houston and Arlington? You guys ever think of that?
Interesting, and both those guys were/are jackwagons!!!I was always a strong no for Jack Morris making the HOF... but I think I have to change my mind... look at the potential HOF pitchers who started their careers in the 70s... it was a TERRIBLE decade for SPs to start their careers...
Jack Morris is surprisingly the 2nd best of them, right after Bert Blyleven(but you can argue Morris was the bigger name)... at least when you talk about the whole career...
Bill FreehanHow about couple more tigers get in????
Rusty staub...
Champ summers..
Senior smoke...
