After posting this, I did some digging on the 1967 novel Logan's Run. In the novel, there is a character called, I kid you not, Logan 3. In the novel, he is a Deep Sleep Operative, which is also called a Sandman. He also uses a special weapon called, "The Gun."

So we have #3 Logan Thomas, who comes into the stadium when they play Sandman, utilizing his gun of an arm as a weapon. How ridiculous of a coincidence is this?
