ACC Tourney Going to Tue-Sat Format

Starting next year the ACC Tournament will be going to a Tuesday through Saturday format, instead of finishing the tournament on Sunday as they have since 1981.

3 Opening Round games on Tuesday
4 Second Round games on Wednesday
Quarterfinals on Thursday
Semifinals on Friday in Prime Time
Final on Saturday in Prime Time

Basically following the old Big East model, which makes sense since almost half the league is old big east and are accustomed to it.

I wish they would spring for a 16th team. 15 teams makes very little sense.

Yeah I agree to a certain extent with that. It will help w/the committee, but the other conferences that play Sunday won't change their game times so they will still have to deal w/it.

The ACC Tournament final was played on a Saturday Night from 1954 to 1980 as well.

Adding a 16th team wouldn't make sense until Notre Dame commits to being a full-time member. Since the idea of Notre Dame ever becoming a full-time member at this point is very questionable, the ACC isn't entertaining any type of ideas of adding another member.

I have no problem admitting that I'm a traditionalist, I prefer the 8-9 team ACC, but I have no problem with this move.

The Saturday night championship game will be great for ESPN, but it's going to continue to kill the atmosphere during the tournament. Wednesday puts the entire arena in a funk until Friday as it is. ACC needs to reformat the week, although it's still a treat to have every team with a shot. Maybe co-locate a smaller and larger venue to fit the demand for each day. Play Tuesday and Wednesday at Georgia Tech. Thursday, Friday, Saturday at the Georgia Dome. You could throw a bone to the folks who go all week with semi-priority seating maybe.

i wonder if it will hurt ticket sales. i go to the big 10 tourney every yr by just taking Friday off work and getting 3 days of bball. looks like acc fans are going to have to take basically a week off
