Hmmmm. KB at $25 million per season of LWJ at $570,000 and team controlled for a few more years?
Completely different animals there. KB has ROY, MVP and WS ring. He can play competently at least 5 positions (don't know about SS or 1b). Doesn't have huge splits LHP v RHP.

LW2 has no hardware. Competent at all 3 OF positions. Big splits vs LHP. Terrific value, but not near KBs class as a player.

I hope we keep both.

Just read this:

Camilo Doval throwing a 102.5 mph pitch that was the second fastest ever recorded by a Giant in the Statcast era (behind a Brian Wilson fastball from 2009)

This man is our closer of the future. And the future may be next week.

LWJ fills a specific hole for (essentially) free. KB contributes to many roles, but for a quarter of the budget.

agreed. LW2 is a tremendous value. However, guys who can do what KB does are rare. Hence, the big $$$

5 IP, 1 ER, 1.00 WHIP

But .... this also shows the issues with the wholestaff approach. The pen was excellent yesterday ... but that 1 ER was charged to Littel in 2/3 of an inning. He gave up 2 hits, a walk and 1 ER. That tied the game. The pen itself ... saved itself. Alvarez stopped any more damage and we went on for the win. As a whole the pen was stellar but not all of the individual pieces were.
That's what will happen at times with the wholestaff approach. All you need is one of those relievers to have a bad outing and the rest of the effort will be lost in the process.

Alvarez averted that situation yesterday ...

In September, he has STRUGGLED to a 3.75 ERA and about a 1.5 WHIP. If those are your STRUGGLE numbers, you can pitch for my team.

I'll take 1 ER over 5 innings by our pen on any day and in any game.. You can't realistically expect much better. We used 6 relievers yesterday and only gave them 1 run ....

On the other side of the coin .... Gausman still seems to be having some issues trying to regain his form. I see two more starts for him before the playoffs ...

tzill's standard to even be in the Giants' bullpen is extremely high. It would be nice . . . if it was realistic.

His last five appearances his ERA is 6.75, his WHIP is 2.25

He can go; I'll hold the door.

I admit I lump Shittell in with Brebbia and Menez...mostly cuz I think they're all the same person.

I once thought Moronta would be the closer of the future. Injuries have derailed his career. Hope Doval stays healthy.

Nitpicking here, but I’d say Bryant is competent at 3 different positions at best (3B, RF, LF). He’s not a CF’er. Also, distant past hardware shouldn’t be taken into account for this contract imho. Boras will ask for it, but it shouldn’t sway FZ and co.

If you are only focusing on his last 5 appearances, why have you been bitching about him all season?

No, I insist. You first.
