David Price . . . long reliever.

Dont know if history states getting up and down in a pen, pitching every or every other day in a postseason out of the pen, is less strenuous on the arm

Or maybe they are just putting him on the roster with no real intention of using him in high leverage roles

you know you play in the AL Central, right? two of the worst teams in the AL by record and by overall Wins Above Average are from the Central, not to mention one mediocre Royals team and a meh Twins team. White Sox, Tigers and Twins all rank at the bottom of the AL in pitcher WAA.

My apologies, I didn't realize we were talking about the Indians.

Yes, they have a weak schedule based on their division like the Astros. The Astros first half was ridiculous, though. Something like 60% of their games were agains the 5 worst pitching teams in the bigs.

You know what contract never gets enough attention?

Joe Mauer makes $23 per through 2018

yesterdays thread.

i said if the sox were smart they would go:

sale
fister
pomeranz
sale again

use price out of the pen in relief.

tho, i woulndt put him in high leverage spots. middle relief...2-3 IP if needed.

Problem with Fister as evidenced by last night -- you gotta get him through the first inning. Buchholz had a similar problem back in the day. Almost like he needs to warm up longer or throw a simulated one inning BEFORE hitting the mound.

fister is a better option than price or porcello as a #2. eddie may not be a bad option in there as well. his last 2 starts have been gems.

In hindsight, the contract sucks, but I don't think the decision by the Twins to give it to him did. Hometown hero, absolute masher, new ballpark, about to be a FA. That would have been a PR nightmare if he'd have walked.

The Ryan Howard and Miggy deals, IMO, are way fucking worse from a decision making standpoint.

Those protesters should have thrown up that sign when the Orioles were in town. Adam Jones would have made it all about him.

Do they have enough days between the games or are you going with Sale on short rest? The Yankees went with 3 in 2009 but they've removed some of the days off since adding the play in games.

In a series vs the Tribe, I think they should go Price, Sale, Price.

Three is doable. Indians had 1.7 last year.

I agree. If Mauer walked away the PR hit would have been a nightmare. Throw in the Kung Fu Panda contract, the Sox got exactly nothing for that. Ellsbury is another disaster but at least he's on the field.

Homer Bailey's 6/$105 million deal is the worst "least talked about" contract in baseball. He'll make $44 million over the next two years, and then get a $5 million buyout.

Wow, good one. With him being hurt so much you rarely hear about it.

Over the last 3 years, he has 23 starts, 108.2 IP, and a 6.96 ERA. Of the 426 pitchers who have 100 innings since 2015, he has the worst ERA.

It's also the reason Lester left boston.

It screwed up the entire market.

I think we have a winner. When they were choosing who to keep long term maybe they should have chosen Cueto

It took Bailey a while to become a decent pitcher too. He looked like he was on his way to becoming an All-Star after two good years in 2012/13, but he fell apart.
