If only Nick Lowrey would return.
Then we wouldn’t need Cobb OR Susac. He would be the best battery in the history of the game all by himself…. As an OFer.

You all just wait .... I'm hearing through the grapevine at FZ is currently working on a plan which will bring Marvin Benard out of retirement and into the batter's box and ready for the playoffs .... we will be an offensive juggernaut..

But ... sorry to say .... not much can be done about our fielding. If we complain too much they have a plan to bring in a new short stop that will make Johnnie LeMaster look like a HOFer ....

I whole heartedly disagree.

Yes, we have a top 2 that can compete with any top 2 in the league. And if only we still had Susac, we could have the greatest battery in the history of the game with Cobb/Susac.

But this team’s defense is still atrocious. And the offense doesn’t scare an 8 year old girl who still sleeps with the lights on.
Granted we will have to parlay a number of items if we are to sneak back in:

Doval will have to continue to improve and become a lockdown closer like we had during our WC years.

Bart will continue to hit, as well as Longoria and the others. We can't have holes in the lineup.

Cobb and Wood develop into legit 3/4 starters.

The fielding at least doesn't kill us.

One game at a time, still 47 to go. We haven't run out of runway yet.

Poor kid. He was totally thrown to the wolves as a sacrificial lamb. He was an A-level player thrust into an opening day starter role. He was totally set up for failure.

At least he got some MLB pay for his troubles. Per BBRef, he earned approx 1.2M over his career. I do t think I believe that though. He only played in 38 games over 2 separate seasons.

But we are 5.5 out of the 3rd spot, and we would have to jump TWO teams to get it.

I just don’t see this team having that kind of consistency to put together the kind of winning streaks (and avoid the losing streaks) to be able to do that.

I certainly hope I am wrong, but I don’t think I will be. This team just doesn’t have the maw-bulls.

Maybe so, I certainly don't have a crystal ball. But in the last 10 games, we have made up 3 games on BOTH of those teams. We are trending...

We are two back against the Brewers, and 5.5 back against the Padres.

Coincidentally, we have two games left against the Brewers, and 6 left against the Padres.

Just sayin.

Why does ESPN list the Giants as having a 62.8% chance of making the playoffs?

I think most of those projections of "ploff" percentage also include run differential and the giants are still in plus territory. which might help to explain whatever calculations they use. On the CBS site, (I try to never go to any "notESPeciallyentertainingandsportsNitwitwork" affiliate) the "Ploff" projections are much lower.

And then, Cal hanged himself...in bizarre circumstances.

Seriously, the D will likely be THE reason we don't make it. But if we do, Webb/Rodon/Cobb stacks up with any other 3. We can hit when healthy. We have a closer. If you squint, you can juuuuuuust kinda see it.

We'd likely play the Turdinals in the first round, 3 in STL. Second round there is no re-seeding, so it'd likely be the Mutts for a 2-2-1 series. We'd probably need Wood to take game 1, but I could see us taking game 2 with Webby. Then it's a 3 game series where we host two...and Rodon on the mound for game 3. Make the Mutts sweat two elimination games.

Cobb is already ace adjacent...at least this year. Wood is a legit #3. We need Junis to hold the fort every fifth day and give us a chance.

Fielding has to be average...not sure it can be.

But hey, we can dream.

Since 6/1, Alex Cobb has been one of the better pitchers in the NL:
ERA - 2.92
FIP - 3.31
WHIP - 1.17
K/9 - 8.5
SO/W - 3.10
GB rate - 57.2%

Thats ace like stuff gents.

If Junis can beat their ace tonight, I just might be able to wean myself off that Viagra...

if you don’t make a stink, maybe the police won’t be notified and we all just ignore that the real tz is probably lying dead in a ditch somewhere…

He's threatened to off you twice in the past couple of weeks for your Susac comments. This is definitely tzill. He may be on some kind of happy pill, but its tzill.
