OK, if I want to win both of my bets, the Nats need to stop scoring...

Desmond's out at first by Lincecum. Wow. I am always amazed when the umps get such a close call correct. It was probably a 1/10th of a second difference between the two feet hitting the bag, but the ump gets it right.

They're gonna get em right at least 50% of the time, probably 60% since they are right there

On the bright side...

This helps the Giants draft position and makes Timmeh a tad more affordable for next year...

Rooting for Timmy is tricky....every bad start brings his price down, but every good start gives more evidence that you want him back...

It used to. That .406 from Ted Williams would have been higher if the "sacrifices" weren't counted as at-bats, like they were then.

Sacs still count against your OPS. OPS is PA-based. Not AB-based...

You are thinking AVG...

And does reaching by error help your OBP?

It's sad, if we were still at all in the pennant chase we'd be yelling for Bochy to pull Tim. But now it's whatever

Not possible for me to win both bets now...

Only have 1 run left to give to protect my under-bet...

These GDTs are totally different when there is not score-board watching...

And there goes my cushion...

After all the heart this team showed in the post-season last year, the team has been the tin-man this year.

The tiniest thing happens, and they all just check-out.

Yes.

You reach base, so it SHOULD help your OBP...

Except that I am 99% sure that it does not work that way...

It doesn't, you're correct.

I don't know about 'should' either. In theory these stats are measuring how well a player does something. OBP of course measures how well he reaches base, either with hits or walks or HBP (all skills). An error 'shoulda' been an out, so the batter shouldnt get credit for it. In the extreme, think of a guy who reaches by error 30 times. That would materially affect his OBP but it wouldn't make him a better hitter.

Which is also why I asked about IBB pitches vs pickoff throws. In theory the stat is measuring the strain on the pitcher's arm...IBB pitches don't really strain it, pickoff moves kinda do. SO the pitchcount isn't really measuring what you want it to.

Yeah, agreed. ANd compare 2011 to 2013. Posey goes down and they keep grinding, stay in the race, and win 86 games.

These guys have some injuries and they just fall apart.
