In a bold prediction - I think that the Giants will dash the Astros' hopes of throwing a no hitter much earlier in this game than last night's, getting a hit in the first inning, only to have the runner cut down in a lame double play. However, only time will tell what the future holds.

With FZ being known to cut bait on dead weight contracts early, what are the chances the Giants jettison any of Pence, Sandoval, Samardzija, Cueto, Longoria, Belt or Crawford this year? All but Longoria will be free agents after 2021 (with Cueto holding a team option for 2022 and Longoria a team option for 2023).

The 2010 Giants certainly feel far away watching this pitching group.

I don't really see many/any of the current pitchers on this team being long-term assets for this team, or part of the next playoff run.

Maybe Webb, maybe Shaun Anderson, maybe Barager, but boy this pitching staff needs work. Then looking at the minors, I don't see that much help either. Zaidi is going to have to make some shrewd moves, or open up that wallet. Looking ahead, this upcoming offseason Stroman and Bauer are available. The year after that Syndergaard, Scherzer and Verlander are available (though the latter two will be quite old).

So pretty much Zaidi is going to need to be pretty creative. Maybe catch a team that's feeling the pinch from ownership financially and get an expensive pitcher on a discount.
