I believe “lifetime“ contracts are outlawed by the MLB now. I think Pujols (??) contract included a bunch of alternate incomes that bypassed the tax system, so the league made adjustments in response.

This was about 10 years ago, so I may not be remembering it accurately.
I don't mean literal I mean a 5 year $80 mil type deal.

I would not advocate signing him to a 5 year deal

i could be convinced to do a 2 year deal, but that’s about as long as I would be willing to go.

He can only play 2 out of 3 days anyway.

I'm not suggesting it's a great deal financially. The last couple years will be overpays. But he deserves a thank you deal. He will get a 4-5 year deal elsewhere if not. And financially it's probably a good idea not to let him go.

If he agrees to move to 1B 50% in ‘22 and 90% after that, than MAYBE. But having him around as a 100% catcher just blocks Bart and Bailey.

I'm sure that all gets discussed/negotiated

Maybe they can work out an extension to keep him here for the rest of his career
That'd be great but I bet he wants to play for the Braves at least one season before he retires though... or Atlanta United... Just kidding.

But I bet he'd like to be a Brave before it's all said and done.
