  • After the Mets designated Dillon Gee for assignment on Monday, it's time for the team to call up young lefty Steven Matz, writes columnist John Harper in the Daily News.

  • Syndergaard was dominant Monday night, and Matz can be the same, writes columnist Kevin Kernan in the Post.

  • Matz should have been here already, writes columnist Anthony Rieber inNewsday.

Let's Go Matz!!!

Last in the league in ERA...

Tim Kurkjin doesn't think they'll be in the race and I completely believe him!

The biggest fuck up they made, in my opinion, was waltzing into the season with a pitching staff lead by Rick Porcello.

Yup. I think the pitching problems aren't really a surprise. They should have expected the defense to take a nose dive too. The shitty offense really is the only surprising thing about this team.

Yup. remember when I said that should competitive despite the shitty pitching because I expected them to score 850-900 runs?

Agreed. I cannot understand the contract the BoSox gave to Porcello. A pitch-to-contact guy with a career strikeout rate of 5.6/9 is not a good fit for Fenway, even if he does get his share of ground balls. 11 HR in 13 starts so far this year seems to bear that out.

He currently has the lowest GB% of his career by far. Career 51.5% and it was 49% last year. It's currently 42.4%. Even when he was getting ground balls, he still gave up his share of home runs.

I think his ERA will settle down a bit, but the changes in his peripherals aren't too encouraging.

I haven't looked at the numbers but it feels like the Sox rarely make comebacks this season (save for that A's game a week and half ago). You have a few run lead going into the latter innings, you're probably good.
