I think to some extent he's already done that. His average fastball velocity was about as low as it's ever been last year and he still had a 14 game stretch where his ERA was 2.27.

Then again, his fastball so far in 2016 is as fast as it's been since 2012, so maybe he thinks he's a flamethrower again. I do think he has the ability to adjust his style to a loss of velocity.

We'll see.
Tim Hudson was consistent 87 mph and hung around for 4 more seasons so it's doable

Not that it relates to our discussion, but if you like books, you might enjoy one I read called Living on the Black. It's about Glavin's and Mussina's last seasons. Granted, Glavin was with the Mets then, but I assume you're a fan of his. It was pretty interesting.

This may shock and alarm several of you, but during his last start, Bartolo Colon actually reached 92 on the gun

Tomorrow he will be on the DL I'm sure

Nah. He's got a 10.00 ERA. If he keeps that up, I expect he'll be good for 185+ innings.

It's when he drops that ERA to the low threes that you need to worry about a DL trip.

I think JV's fastball velocity bottomed out in 2014. Late last year, he was hitting 97-98 on the gun at times. I don't think he topped 94 mph this past Monday, though.
