Figured we'd reset this thread for the new season.

We'll start off with a somewhat surprising one:

Basically had one really great year and the rest were nothing to right home about. That being said, 28 years old, one more year of control. Maybe worth a flyer.

Sounds similar to another reliever the Giants took a flyer on a few years back. That one turned into Jaylin Davis...

Read his velo is down a couple MPH. I guess the Giants have to ask themselves a couple of questions - can the velo come back up? If not, are his other pitches able to compensate?

Christian Arroyo got dfa'd by the Indians today. He appeared in 1 game for them with no plate appearances. The Indians are his 3rd organization (other two traded him). He has made a total of 251 plate appearances across 4 seasons and 71 games in the big leagues and has an aggregate .215/.280/.342 slash. Over half of those PAs were with the Giants in 2017.

I noticed he was with the Tribe during ST2. I totally missed him getting traded there last year.

Remember when he got called up and was viewed as the team’s savior for about 3 days?

Yeah. That was awesome...

Fun fact: His first HR I was sitting in the first row of the LF bleachers. The ball was literally coming right to me, but my buddy sitting to the right flinched away and some chick stuck her glove out and deflected it away...to a phuking doyer fan...

I'm the guy in black, next to the guy in a brown coat...she dives RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME because my buddy to my right failed to block out.

I don’t see a 5’3”, 300 lb acne-faced ginger with coke bottle glasses there.

The best part is that due to Youtube it's preserved forever and my buddy gets huge rations of crap on his flinch every time the topic comes up.

I PHUKING HAD THAT BALL.

Phillies dfa'd outfielder Nick Williams today. I'd be willing to see the Giants pick him up if Slater and Yaz weren't doing so well. Right now, I'm not sure where he'd slot, unless Pence retired early and he fills in as a 4th outfielder guy.

Apparently the BoSox claimed him.

The BoSox DFA’d Christian Arroyo...

I had thought about posting this and then saw the Bart announcement. I think he was on the Red Sox' roster for about 24 hours. We'll see if he clears and/or declares free agency.

Travis Bergen just got his contract purchased by the Blue Jays. I guess this means Dany Jimenez will be pitching for them in 2021. I wonder what Blue Jay farmhand we'll draft in the Rule 5 this December?

A few former Giants in trades recently:
Cameron Maybin and Josh Osich shipped to the Cubs
Kevin Pillar shipped to the Rockies
Travis Bergen shipped to the Diamondbacks

All guys that the Giants let walk for free, their “current” teams were able to trade them away for a return...

Understandable in some cases, disappointing in others

Maybin is understandable. He was a dumpster dive for the Giants and didn't perform well in spring training last year. His 2019 season with the Yankees came out of nowhere (2020 hasn't been as good but still better than 2018).
Osich makes me wonder - did the Giants even try with him? His numbers with Boston don't suggest that the Cubs would even be willing to trade for him. Yet they did.
Bergen pitched all of 4 games since the Giants returned him to the Blue Jays. Not sure how that makes him a more likely trade candidate. However, he was under Rule 5 rules last year so its probably not that simple.
Pillar is doing markedly better offensively this year than last year.

Interesting that Bergen got them Ray. Ray has been pretty horrible this year, but still amusing in a way.
