I'm not sure how this format works, but it's not a lose and go home event which helps keep the big names around for the weekend I guess.

Wednesday through Friday is round robin play in each 4-man pod. You have 16 pod winners at end of Friday. Then then play matches Saturday morning (winner advances) to get to 8...and then matches in afternoon (winner advances to get to 4). Sunday morning are the semifinal matches and Sunday afternoon are the championship and consolation matches.

Thanks!

I did watch some yesterday with the volume up for a change, and kinda got the format down a little...given that everyone in the pod plays each other it's possible to have 2 guys go 2-1 I'm thinking hth would decide who wins the pod in that case?

No...it's a sudden death stroke play playoff between the tied players that starts on the first hole and goes on until there's a winner.

Oh...so it's possible you might need to beat the same player twice to get out of your pod...that's a bit quirky to me, but I'm just a fan.

Eh - it is just for entertainment purposes & viewers. It is not like this is a major so really should not be a big deal.

Not a huge fan of the sudden death pod playoff format, but I'm sure there are limitations on what they can do.

Yeah, that's a given even though it is a WGC event and carries all the same benefits as any other PGAT win, except it's a $10 mil + purse.

IMO, conceptually it's just a quirky way to settle a tie...it's almost as if the head to head win meant nothing. It's not a deal breaker or anything like that...I'm still going to watch a good bit of it.

Yea it should be one and done ..but they can't. If the big names get beat early,

The ratings go ......

I actually like the pod concept....the quirk...it's not the case because Sneds was able to scratch out a tie, but assuming he lost that match...he and TW would be 1-1 and if the both won today Sneds would have to go into a playoff with TW to play the weekend after already beating him h-t-h.

If Casey and Howell both win today.

What’s the determination on who advances?

Never mind guess there is a playoff.

For some reason thought it just went to tiebreakers

Well - love it or hate it - the network has its dream matchup tomm morning - Tiger vs Rory. Tiger played like crap for a good deal of this tourney but was on fire during the latter part of his match today. Rory has been playing lights out for a while including thus far in this tourney. He should have the decided edge - we will see.

One benefit in match play is that guys go for it all if they are in trouble.
They try shots they would never try normally for fear of posting a big number.

But in match play the damage is limited to 1 hole so they go for it because they are on the verge of losing the hole anyway.

So true. It's not so much Tiger is it? I think when your head line guy is Matt Kuchar, you lose 90% of the fringe golf fans. They would've done okay if they had some firepower other than Tiger...they lost all of them.
