Should have kept Cesar. Half the team to be replaced.

Should have kept Cesar. Half the team to be replaced.

Cesar ($11-12M) and Maikel ($4-5M) were going to make ~$17M combined this season, so that money can be spent on either a 3B or a SS, or heck, even a SP.

If they were to get somebody like Todd Frazier, put Kingery at 2B and you're set.
If they were to get Didi Gregorious, move Segura to 3B and put Kingery at 2B. Or swap them, wherever they feel most comfortable.

I would prefer not to start with Bohm at 3B, but if the extra money is used to bring in SP, I would consider it, depending on who we bring in.

I think you mean Corey Dickerson. Someone should pick that guy up. All he does is hit wherever he goes. He's a modern day Mike Easler

Word. A lot of times you see college running backs run to one side and get stuffed, then reverse fields and run all the way to the other side of the field for a big gain. It never seems to work in the pros. But somehow Eric Dickerson was able to do it a few times. Hall of fame player, Hall of Fame glasses.

It may be a slight overpay for Wheeler but he is 29 and has some good upside. This gives us money under the luxury tax and don't forget we have to pay Realmuto. I am not not sure if we will be getting another arm this year or not via FA. Klentack may do some sort of trade. Time will tell.

Everyone wanting Hamels to come to the phillies (including myself) is more of an emotional want to relive what had transpired over a decade ago.

97+ mph pitches thrown over last two seasons:
Zack Wheeler - 1,111
Phillies starters - 40

also

Corey Siedman from NBC Sports
"Last 2 seasons combined, Zack Wheeler went 14-3 with a 2.26 ERA after the All-Star break. In 2018, arguably best pitcher in NL in second half.

Put together 4 months like that instead of 2, you’re approaching ace territory. That’s what folks mean when they mention his upside."

Wheeler is mediocre at best. He will downslide for certain. Bad deal.

i see a lot about his upside Why Zack Wheeler could be the next Gerrit Cole

just wish i had more faith in someone coming to the phillies and actually improving. tends to be the other way around.

Not on the Wheeler bandwagon for several reasons;
1. Past Tommy John surgery
2. 5 year contract after Tommy John surgery
3. Former Met
I’m afraid this is just another Klentac handcuff. I think everyone knows he is on the hot seat and is blindly shooting for the stars.
That said he can’t be worse than what we have, just more expensive (unless he breaks down).

I like the signing.

Slight overpay, but consider :
1) Arrieta comes off the books next year; still need to pay JT
2) Players Bargaining Agreement ends in 2020; in previous years, tax limits almost always go up

His second half numbers in the past two years are ace-like. If you’re going to spend money, might as well roll the dice here.
