I know it's only one series, but this OBP-focused offense looks fantastic. They're not giving away any at bats. They're grinding out every starter. And they're getting on base. A lot. It's amazing.

Yeah I like their style of hitting and the approach this year. Good fits for the bench and don't need the HR to score runs.
Now with that said I wonder who will hit their first HR?

Guess it was Marte. What a way to get #1.

Well guys look like we are having the same problems we had last yr. Unable to beat Cincy in a series. It will be interesting to see how we play vs the Brewers.

Lobstein sucks. And if they don't want to use Vogelsong in a spot like this, then they need to release him.

Yeah Lobstein is really not good. Both him and Luebke were the throw s**t at the wall hoping it will stick.
Honestly if Holdzkom velocity didn't drop so bad he would have been on the roster over Lobstein.

Unfortunately, unless they find an upgrade for either externally both will be around until Glasnow and or Taillon is ready, at that point Nicasio, Locke or Niese will go back to the bullpen.

Another bad bullpen outing.

Lets hope Liriano's injury isn't serious.

Good News....Kang is cleared to play games.
Bad News...Elias Diaz might have serious elbow issues.

^ Yeah just saw that. The "reclaimation" projects have to stop at some point with real talent needing to be signed at some point. Searage can't save them all.

Sure, but Masterson's just depth. They're not going to count on him. If he figures it out, great, they have another option for a spot start or something. If not, oh well.

Oh don't get me wrong, yeah great if it works but as we are seeing the beginning of this season their starting pitching will not be sustainable all season. Also, the extra parts of the bullpen aren't that good either. If Nicasio was in the BP and they had another starter to start this season I think they would have been better. Hopefully they can wait out Glasnow/Tailon in the standings.

I really don't see the Pirates in contention next year, not doing anything in FA market, while other teams are loading up, especially Cubs. Most impact players are signed. They need to do something fast, IMO

This lack of doing much of anything will catch up to them quickly. Lack of pitcher quality and depth is gona kill Bucs this year.

^ Surprisingly Mercer was the issue yesterday, did pretty well in the lead off position.
Unfortunately no one else could get a hit and Locke was awful.

^ Crap type-o. Mercer wasn't the issue.

Mercer's always been good against lefties. He makes perfect sense leading off against them.

With type-o and my wording was wrong. I agree Mercer is the best bet to bat leadoff against lefties and what I truly meant to say was Mercer was their only good player last night.

So far this season leadoff combo has been good .365/.438/.492 but only has scored 6 runs. Hopefully when McCutchen starts hitting consistently they will start to score more often. The #2 and 3 hitters are the worst in bringing in runs, while interstingly enough the 9th position in the order leading the team in RBI's.

Finally wonder if Locke gets skipped next time around with Vogelsong taking his place?

Oh yeah, I got that. I was just commenting that I wasn't surprised he did well.

But the whole problem with this team is our pitchers give up too many home runs. That's it. Just give up a normal number of home runs, and we're good.
