2015 MLB schedule released, season begins a week later than 2014

Major League Baseball has released the 2015 schedule. It's available at MLB.com, so definitely go over and check it out if you would like to get down and dirty on individual matchups.

One thing that immediately jumps out is the late start. The traditional "opening day" that is a Monday happens on April 6 in 2015. This season, it was March 31. Going to the end of the season, that shows us that the last day of the regular season will be Oct. 4. Given that there aren't going to be changes to the playoff format, it seems pretty likely that at least the last several games of the World Series in 2015 will take place in November.

Also of note is the interleague schedule. In 2015, it'll be pretty simple. The regions all line up. That is, the NL East takes on the AL East, the AL Central vs. the NL Central and the NL West gets the AL West.

Stupid move. If anything they should've started a couple weeks earlier.

I don't think starting a few weeks earlier would be a good idea...in many places it's colder in March than it is in November, so particularly in northern cities (Cleveland, NY, Chicago, Boston, Philly, Detroit etc) you'd probably have poorer attendance and more weather issues if you started the season say, mid-March.

You guys are so whiny. There's really not a big difference in weather from the last week of October to the first week of November

Yeah, let's move the MLB season further on into the NFL season, great idea!

Starting a couple weeks earlier is the best option. Let baseball own the summer.

As I mentioned earlier, it's a terrible move from a owner standpoint (and the commish is representing the owners).

Attendance in recent years has been poor in early/mid April when the weather isn't that good in many places, so what do you think will happen if you make the season start mid-March? How many do you think will pack the stands on a 38 degree day in Cleveland, Philly, Chicago, etc?

The owners would never allow that, and it's safe to presume that most of the owners care more about their individual attendance/sales than World Series ratings.

not to mention how many more games would get cancelled/postponed due to the weather.
