off season is here. so much is going on leading up to the draft. here we go

How easy will a Kessel trade be for Leafs? - Article - TSN

these guys are discussing that Kessel should be able to fetch the 4th or 5th overall and a prospect.

I dont see that with his contract.

So Toronto trades Phil Kessel to Toronto for the 4th overall pick? :)

In seriousness, then he stays another year. No pressure playing on a bad team, he reverts to his career averages and next season somebody with a brain realizes that the guy with the 4th most goals in the NHL since 2009 might be worth the money in a league where production is declining and pays the same thing. We just watched a Stanley Cup Final where two of the most productive players in the league (Stamkos and Kane) were limited to 2 goals and 4 points combined over 6 games. Can't teach goalscoring; Kessel scores goals.

Absolutely. Although "fans" think Kessel is the Anti-Christ, is worthless, and needs to leave yesterday, your comments are the reality. Despite what the fans think, TOR management should not feel compelled to give away anyone and everyone just because. And I dont think Shanny and the Gang are that dumb.

Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul Bozak, ..., will be traded if it makes sense for the team. I expect the Leafs will make some deals, but I am not expecting a wholesale roster turnover. Not by a long shot. Will that piss off the fan base? Probably, I just hope management doesnt care if they do piss them off.

If TOR were able to get a #5 or #6 (or maybe even the #3), is there any chance they could package that pick with their #4 and move up to #1 or #2?

If they do, they shouldn't package it. I'd rather get two great players than 1 amazing player.

I really feel like the Leafs could wind up with another 2 picks in the first round. If the opportunities are there, they need to take them.

with the two that are slotted as #1 and #2 I just dont see it. Talent like Jack and Connor are very rare. I just dont see either team wanting to give it away even for a boat load of picks and prospects. I wouldnt

Kerby Rychel, victim of choosing the wrong agent, will get moved by the Jackets. Not at the draft, though.

I am scared because the Jackets want an experienced defender and Dion Phaneuf is "experienced". As in old.

We also have this drama going on. He is officially UFA as of this morning.

I imagine MIN and CHI have his interest. Cup winner in need of D and his hometown team.

Phaneuf is younger than Duncan Keith, Conn Smythe winner, and is definitely on the path to similar greatness*.

Exactly. I wouldn't do it from either side.

Prediction: Ryan O'Reilly goes to Arizona for the 3rd overall pick.
I'd love the O'Reilly drama to be over, but Sakic loves the guy. That would also allow us to take Hanifin and boost the Defense up.

I think the Avs would go the route of shopping the 10th overall for a solid D-Man. I know at the trade deadline they were talking a lot with Toronto about Phaneuf... Not that I'm pulling for that route.

But Phaneuf + Gardiner might make the Avs do it.

I would much like pick no. 10.

A lot of teams could do worse than Phaneuf. That said he shouldn't go anywhere where he'd have to be the guy on defense.
