(The following is a work of fiction based on the game Baseball Mogul 2014)

The acids had burned in the pits of their stomachs for months. The sickening sights of brooms ready to send each one of them into a violent rage. The hatred for everything Giants-related had boiled over to the point where they even felt some consolation when seeing the New York Football Giants miss the playoffs completely.

Being the favorites to win the American League again in 2013 did nothing to dispel that anger. Especially when the experts said they would lose the World Series yet again.

Their hadn’t left their hearts in San Francisco but they had never allowed their pain to travel too far away from the place where their World Series nightmare still called home.

The 2012 Detroit Tigers had been swept in the World Series by the San Francisco Giants.

The 2013 Detroit Tigers were determined to right that horrible wrong and win their first World Series in almost 30 years.

DETROIT AT MINNESOTA

“Peanuts!” “Ice cold beer!” “Programs! We got your programs!”

Home-openers are the most exciting moments in baseball. April is just getting underway and fans of every team file into the stadiums with the belief that, this year, their team can do it.

This was especially true for the team that had won the ALCS the year before. And what a better opponent to start the season with than the team they had swept the year before.

Realignment in the ‘90s may have replaced them as division foes, but the Tigers, like all other teams in baseball, took special satisfaction out of beating the Yankee

NEW YORK YANKEES (2-1) AT DETROIT(2-1)
APRIL 5, 2013
Anibal Sanchez took the mound opposite Kyle Davies in the opener.

Both pitchers shut their opponents out for the first three innings.

The Yankees scored in the top of the fourth but an RBI single by Omar Infante tied it in the bottom of the fourth.

Robinson Cano homered to give the Yankees a 2- lead in the top of the fifth but, in the bottom of the fifth, Miguel Cabrera had a 2-RBI single to give Detroit a 3-2 lead.

The Yankees scored in the top of the sixth to make the score 3-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Andy Dirks hit the Tigers’ first homerun of the season, a 2-run shot over the right field fence off Boone Logan and that was the difference as Detroit took the series opener 5-3.

APRIL 6, 2013
The second game of the series saw Rick Porcello battle C.C. Sabathia (1-0).

The Yankees scored two in the top of the first but that was all as Porcello would just allow 4 hits in 8 innings.

Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera hit solo homers in the bottom of the first to tie the game.

Jhonny Peralta led off the bottom of second with a solo blast, Andy Dirks added a sac-fly ribbie and Prince Fielder mashed a 3-run crush to right-center as the Tigers scored 5 in the inning to take a 7-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cabrera hit his second solo shot of the game to make the final score Tigers 8 Yankees 2.

APRIL 7, 2013
Maz Scherzer (1-0) took the mound opposite Ivan Nova in the series finale.

Austin Jackson had an RBI-single in the bottom of the third to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Yankees, though, scored 6 in the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Jackson had a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to cut it to 6-2.

The Yankees added three in the ninth to win 9-2.

NEXT SERIES: Toronto Blue Jays (3-3) at Detroit (4-2) April 9-11

AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES
April 5: First place belongs to Orioles.
April 6: 25,105 watch Chicago beat Seattle 6-0. Nationals edge Reds to extend lead to 1. Cardinals win 2-1 to share division lead. Tampa Bay squeaks by Cleveland in 15 innings.

Can you tell me more about this game? I've been looking for a good baseball game for years.

Website is here: Baseball Mogul Simulation Game

This is more a strategy game along the lines of Strat-O-Matic rather than a controller-based game like you'd find for PS3 or X-Box, You won't have the graphics of MLB The Show or anything like that.

What you do have is the ability to start with any year between 1901 and 2013. Or you can create a fictional team and/or league. Finances, scouting, drafting, etc.

I do believe that there is a tryout download that will give you a chance to play without buying it to see if it is what you are looking for.

Another popular one is called Out of the Park: Out of the Park Baseball: Home

Sierra FPS Baseball 98 was the best of these types of games. I have not looked at Mogul or OOTP in a few years, though.

APRIL 9, 2013
The Tigers went with Justin Verlander in the series opener against Brandon Morrow.

Prince Fielder drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the first and then scored on a Miguel Cabrera triple to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Jays tied it in the top of the third but, in the bottom of the third, Cabrera added an RBI single and the Tigers had a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Joe Mather added an RBI single and Omar Infante scored on a Ramon Santiago groundball to the pitcher as the Tigers took the opener 7-2.

APRIL 10, 2013
A huge shakeup in the roster of the Tigers as Ramon Santiago was out with a sprained finger. The Tigers signed street free agent Julio Lugo to play short stop and he was in the starting lineup immediately.

Doug Fister and Mark Buehrle were the opposing pitchers in what would not be a day to be a pitcher.

The Blue Jays got a run in the top of the first but Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta each had an RBI single in the bottom of the first to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Colby Rasmus homered in the top of the second to tie the game at 2.

Prince Fielder led off the bottom of the third with a homerun to break the tie. Joe Mather and Lugo added RBI singles and then Austin Jackson hit a three-run shot over the centerfield fence to give Detroit an 8-2 lead.

Toronto would then score six in the top of the seventh to make the final 14-8.

Twenty-two combined runs.

APRIL 11, 2013
The Tigers had been horrible in the finale of the first two series, being outscored by a combined 15-3 by the Twins and Yankees. For this finale, Anibal Sanchez squared off against R.A. Dickey.

And the result was pretty much the same.

Toronto scored two in the first, four in the second, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh to build a 14-0 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Austin Jackson hit a two-run shot and Omar Infante and Joe Mather added RBI singles to make it 14-4.
