I hate randomness. It makes no sense to take a 5 week break between the season and the championship game. You have a fixation on SEC's ranking. 1 game show 0. Not like I am going to say Pac is better than the SEC, because Auburn struggled with Washington State, even if that is something you would do had you been born on the West Coast.

auburn's QB had been on campus for a few weeks when they played washington state. and they won anyway. auburn has been the most improved team in the country not just year over year, but also week over week.

the 5 week break is there for finals and holidays. these are still students playing the game (in theory).

If NCAA was worried they would not have added a game every 15-20 yrs. Wouldnt it make sense to do it earlier and get the games in before exams, instead of practicing during and playing after?

There were also the team with the worst drop so nowhere to go but up.

16 too many id go with 8-12. any playoff that doesn't include the past undefeated boise states northern Illinois etc..is a problem to me. yeah I get it they don't play as many good teams..but how many of us thought boise would beat Oklahoma and Georgia few years later ...add to that Oregon, Virginia tech. whats to say these type of teams cant get it done in playoffs?

I agree. In the end the this is about entertainment. There is nothing better than rooting for David to beat Goliath.

well, exams at auburn started 2 days after the SEC title game. i imagine exams are going on at a lot if not most campuses already.

if you notice a lot of teams take sizeable gaps during basketball season right before christmas too for exams. i know as a kid i followed georgia tech basketball and there was usually 7-10 days where they didn't play any games. auburn has no games until december 21st i believe.

didnt surprise me that much when boise beat oklahoma or georgia. i could be wrong but i think the spreads in both of those games were less than the spread in the national championship game last year and this year

They are still practicing. The pt is there is no off period. It certainly doesnt need to be 5 weeks.

Another way it could be done is to essentially have a 10-team playoff. Again, I'd still like to see the big boys--ACC, Big 10, Big XII, Pac-12, and SEC in one division and the AAC, C-USA, MAC, MWC, and SBC in another division. Only the division winners would advance to the playoffs. Conferences would need at least 10 teams. This past season would have looked something like this:

ACC
Florida St (12-0) vs Duke (10-2)
Big 10
Michigan St (11-1) vs Ohio St (12-0)
Big XII
Baylor (11-1) vs Oklahoma (10-2)
Pac-12
Stanford (10-2) vs Arizona St (10-2)
SEC
Missouri (11-1) vs Auburn (11-1)

Playoff
4)Stanford (11-2) vs 5)Baylor (12-1) (winner gets 1)Florida St (13-0))
2)Auburn (12-1) vs 3)Michigan St (12-1)
------------------

AAC
UCF (11-1) vs Louisville (11-1)
C-USA
Marshall (9-3) vs Rice (9-3)
MAC
Bowling Green (9-3) vs No Illinois (12-0)
MWC
Utah St (8-4) vs Fresno St (10-1)
SBC
UL-Lafayette (9-3) vs Arkansas St (7-5)

Playoff
4)Bowling Green (10-3) vs 5)UL-Lafayette 10-3) (winner gets 1)UCF (12-1))
2)Fresno St (11-1) vs 3)Rice (10-3)
