Not a huge fan of both of these lineups so the great pitching decides it.

I got Nos

I think both lineups are better than you are giving them credit for.

This is actually a pretty even game, I will lean me because I believe my pitching is a bit better.

Because I know you... lolzzz

Juan as your 3?? Mccovey is a great as a 4 hitter in this draft that is weak imo. Rosen as a 5? I wouldn’t say that is strong. Delgado and Howard are underrated. I also like your 1-2 hole hitters probably more than most. Your rotation and BP is so good that it overlooks a weak lineup in this draft. I think I gave these guys plenty of credit, but it is what it is

All that being said, you had the perfect plan to go strong rotation and BP bc the odds of getting a ton of bigtime hitters was going to be difficult, a couple guys built great lineups but pitching went quick so it backfired.

Juan Gonzalez 162's are .295 42 135

Barry Bonds 162's are .298 41 108

I'm not saying Gonzalez is at the same level as Bonds but let's not pretend as if this guy wasn't a great hitter.

Rosen won an MVP and led the league a couple times in HR's and RBI's

Thome never won an MVP, matter of fact he was only top 5 in MVP voting once, he led the league once in HR's and struck out more often than anyone not named Reggie.

Final career numbers aren't the only thing we are suppose to be using when we vote.

I know Juan’s numbers and he was pretty damn good. I stopped drafting Juan bc he doesn’t get much love, but all of sudden he is a beast. I just don’t see it that way. He might be underrated but he had triple the strikeouts to walk and for a 3 hole hitter that just isn’t good enough. The 3 hole hitter should be your best hitter.

There are a lot of great players who don’t have MVP’s and a lot of overrated players that have MVP’s. See Robin Yount for example.

Juan Gone averaged 122 SO's per 162
Mike Trout averages 153 SO's per 162

Trout just walks a lot more otherwise their batting numbers aren't all that far apart.

Sure, but to be top 5 one time in his 22 years tells me for his time playing he wasn't really all that special. I have always thought Thome was overrated in our drafts, people fall in love with 612 and .402 and forget everything else.

Well that .402 is pretty damn good for a guy that is basically a homerun hitter and strikes out a ton. Juan has a .340 OBP. Kind of a huge difference but Juan is your 3 hole hitter, if he was your 5 hole hitter it makes more sense bc he was great at driving in runs.

It's not the job of your #3 to take a walk. Gonzalez 162's are as good as anyone on your team, he simply didnt take a walk and i'm ok with that. .340 - .400 isn't as huge a difference when you compare other numbers. All it means is Thome got on base 6 more times per 100 AB's. Gonzalez had 40 more hits per 162 than Thome.

Gonzalez still produced with his bat at a level equal to anybody's #3 in this draft. He just didn't do it as long and he didn't take a walk.

It isn’t about walks, it’s about getting on base or moving the 1-2 guys over. Juan’s .340 is pretty good but not for a 3 hole hitter in these drafts imo.
.340 to .400 is a huge difference. If it wasn’t a huge difference I wouldn’t even focus on lineup in these drafts and just bulk up my rotation/BP.

The 3 hole hitters in this draft:

Vlad Guerrero
Frank Thomas
Barry Bonds
A-Roid
Stan Musial
Mickey Mantle
Frank Robinson
Jeff Bagwell
Juan Gonzalez

Which name stands out like a sore thumb? It isn’t close. Juan is the weakest 3 hole hitter in this draft but it is more bc he doesn’t belong there. I wouldn’t have gotten away with this. Delgado probably would be more suited for the 3 hole but it seemed like it worked in the voting so I was just pointing it out
