I just took Maris off my need to get list anyway...
I planned to take him in this round from the start of this draft. I would have been fucked if I missed out on him there.
I was going to grab him but I needed the extra money so I'm going with someone else but I wasn't happy about it...
$40,000 vCash. What are you doing at night for this extra cash?
While looking at some bargain players, I crossed a name I remembered as a little kid, Bob Horner from the Braves. Overall #'s were good, then I saw he retired after half a season at 30, so I checked out his per 162's, and have to admit I was blown away, similar to the way I was with Ralph Kiner a while back. I compared Horner's stats to the two best power hitters at the position ever. I'm not comparing them overall, because longevity is a big deal, but still pretty damn impressive IMO
Per 162 game averages:
Mike Schmidt .267, 37 HR's, 107 RBI
Eddie Mathews .271, 35 HR's, 98 RBI
Bob Horner .277, 35 HR's, 109 RBI
The 6-7 seasons he played over 100 games, he was a pretty dominant player. I'd say he was what he was, a really good player who had injury issues. I was surprised by the numbers, even though I remembered him as a good playerFunny his 162 game average RBIs is 109 and has never had over 100 RBIs.... Not sure if this helps or hurts his case, but he never played more than 141 games... and NEVER had 600 PA...
Until you take him the next cap draft, in which case he will be the Second Coming...the Hoop WayHe's a bum!
Then Horner>Schmidt and Matthews.Until you take him the next cap draft, in which case he will be the Second Coming...the Hoop Way
