section 9 (instant replay), reviewable plays, under part c (other detectable infractions) point number 2 states:

Runner ruled down by defensive contact when the recovery of a fumble by an opponent or a teammate occurs in the action that happens following the fumble.

This is basically says that the play is reviewable.

Further (and this is the interesting part), Note 2 states:

If the Referee does not have indisputable visual evidence as to which player recovered the fumble, the ruling of down by contact will stand.

Bottom line, the officials made the right call. As much as it stinks (like the Tom Brady tuck rule), the call was correct. Funny how all of the talking heads (I watched around the horn and listened to others today) failed to actually read the rule and bloviated what a travesty it was.

Its pretty clear that once the play goes to review, what happens on the field doesnt matter. Even if the refs wouldve gone through the scrum and determined that Miami had the ball on the field, it wouldnt have mattered since the ruling was a TD. This makes sense, because you CANT have both a TD and a fumble recovery by the opposing team on the same play.

Just sayin'
