Nah. They're still way more talented than some of the teams with a head start on the top lottery odds. The Senators are basically an AHL team for example.

I think they'll stay close to the playoffs, just like they have been lately.
If season ended today, where would we be picking?

Hartman and a 2020 4th. 4th becomes a 3rd if Nashville wins a round. So probably Hartman and a 3rd.

Was hoping for more, but Hartman showed some promise in Chicago. Seems like a 3rd liner at best to me though. So that's a fairly disappointing return.
Thats BS that we didn't get more for Simmer.

Seems to me that Hartman is basically a second Laughton. Late first round pick a few years ago, high energy, not a huge offensive guy but reasonably sound defensively. Young, decent, bottom 6 guy with a chance to be more if they can get the offense figured out.

Do you think this took all of our attention and the other trades that could've been made were pushed aside.

Maybe. But if Simmonds' return was a bottom 6 guy and a 3rd round pick, the return on Raffl would've been like a 5th rounder. Elliot probably gets them nothing. Who needs an aging goalie that's missed half the season and hasn't really excelled anyway? Gudas probably has value, but Fletcher probably sees him as a Flyer next season and didn't want to move him.

I'm guessing if that's the case, Fletcher probably just said screw it, might as well keep them and try for the playoffs. Pretty low odds of a 5th rounder turning into an NHL asset.

I think the key for the rest of the season now is to figure out what you have in Myers and Morin. Do they factor in to your top 6 next season?

They'd likely pick 13th. ~6% chance of moving in to the top 3 (~2% for each slot).

Maybe Hartrman plays a tough style game that we sorely need. i thought Bailey would provide some of that but he hasn't so far.

Read the beginnings of this on a HockeyBuzz comment, but..

Hartman so far (3rd season)
218gp 40G 42A 82P 303hits

Simmonds through 3 seasons
240gp 39G 54A 93P 380hits

Turn those in to per game and they're pretty close. Not saying Hartman is the 2nd coming of Wayne Simmonds, but they have had pretty similar starts to their careers.

Edit: Simmonds +12, Hartman +21 over those spans also.

Hartman put up 19 goals his rookie year, 11 in a split season with the Black Hawks and Preds and 10 this year with the Preds. No PP time and was up and down the lie up with all the Preds injuries. Is 24 and has a reputation of being tough and an agitator. He is only 5-11 and 194 lbs. Definitely NHL ready, but also not a scorer that we would have hoped for.

More interesting is bringing up Moran. That makes 8 dmen. I would think Moran needs more playing time as he had only 2 games with the Phantoms once he came back. He did drop the gloves in his second back as he thought someone was taking shots at one of his teammates.

I was also surprised to see that Rafl wasn't moved. He is a solid player and not a big cap hit. I was not surprised to see Gudas stay. We are going to get even younger on the back end next year and need some veteran. A Mac will probably be bought out leaving Ghost as the second most experienced.

We need Morin in the line up now that Simmonds is gone or the Tom Wilsons of the world will have a field day with our skilled players fearing no retribution.

We also got a few more million in the bank to sign free agents this summer.

Yep, that's what I'm seeing too. And the Fiala for Granlund deal was a great deal for the Preds also. Fenton might be the new Chiarelli the way he's going. Niederietter for Rask was also a terrible deal for the Wild.

I'm excited to see Hartman. I think he can be a pretty useful bottom 6 guy. 5 on 5, his numbers are pretty similar to Simmonds, but he's younger, faster, and more agitating (draws lots of penalties). Obviously he doesn't replace Simmonds leadership, toughness, or PP production, but I think at 5 on 5 he can come pretty close to replacing him.

And I really want to see Myers and Morin play a lot down the stretch. I don't know if they will, unless the Flyers drop a couple games here and really fall out of the race, but I think it's extremely important to know what you have going in them going into the summer. Are the Flyers OK with Provorov, Sanheim, Ghost, Gudas, Myers, Morin, Hagg, and AMac as your defense next year? I think that's a question you can answer in the next 2 months if you play it smart.

Forwards - 9/13 - 38.1M
Giroux - 8.275
Voracek - 8.25
JvR - 7.0
Couturier - 4.3
Patrick - .925
Lindblom - .925
Laughton (RFA) - 2.2x3 (similar to Raffl's last contract (2.35x3), little less offense shown though)
Konecny (RFA) - 4x6 (Could be similar to Couturier's deal, or Ghost as the defensive equivalent. Lots of other deals similar to this. Has shown some good potential, but is inconsistent. Take the risk on the term to save on the cap hit, IMO)
Hartman (RFA) - 2.2x3 (similar to Raffl's last contract (2.35x3), little less offense shown though)

Defense - 8/7 - 23.9M
AMac - 5.0
Ghost - 4.5
Gudas - 3.35
Hagg - 1.15
Myers - .678
Morin - .700
Provorov (RFA) - 6.5x6 (Falls in to the, #1 potential, but struggled a bit this year, RFA, something like Seth Jones (5.4x6) or Dougie Hamilton (5.7x6) I think. With inflation and perhaps has shown more to this point)
Sanheim (RFA) - 2x2 (Sanheim has bridge deal written all over him, 1 year of experience and has been good, not great. TJ Brodie in 2013 signd a 2.1x2 deal, I think this could be similar)

Goalies - 2/2 - 3.73M
Hart - .730
Talbot (UFA) - 3.0 (assume Talbot gets something similar to what Elliot got, 3x2)

Total: 65.7M
