You just love to hate, don't you? Until the popular vote means something again, there is no value in voting for a candidate guaranteed to win your state.

It never did

There should be an intelligence test required in order to vote. Free test available at any post office, take it when you register just like a driving test. We wouldn't be almost at war with North Korea right now if that were the case.

The voting system needs a reboot; it has been corrupted beyond recognition. Redraw all the districts to make sense geographically and eliminate the electoral college for starters.

The members of the electoral college have NEVER voted against the popular vote of their state. What is the purpose?

Well, at least you admit that you don't know the purpose of the EC :L

Be careful what you wish for. If I had my way people would have to take and pass a civics test to vote and you'd be on the outside looking in.

Come on Rexie, you have to admit your politics are in everybody's face these days.

I try my best to avoid it but President Dump and his family are everywhere.

Kaepernick isn't politics, it's social commentary.....

You have a hard left, metro fruitcake for a PM, Hankie and it seems to me that would keep you canucks plenty occupied.

A bombastic blowhard that doesn't affect or concern you, yet you remain obsessed with him. Seems legit.

The electoral college ensures that smaller states have a say in the election and is not decided by two or three states.

He is your tagline, I'd call that obsession. And no, he doesn't and won't affect you.

I find this worse than not caring and not voting at all. If you're going to vote, you pick between the choices in front of you. Taking your ball and going home isn't a reasonable option IMO. By willfully not voting, you allow things like a Trump presidency to happen.
If a candidate wants my vote, then they need to be an acceptable candidate. A vote for someone I don't believe should be president is a wasted vote. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils. I will not sign my name next to a candidate who does not hold key values that I have deemed most important for a presidential candidate. I guess I can do a write-in candidate next time, will that be acceptable? Or would voting for Hillary be the only acceptable choice for you as it's the only thing that could have truthfully "prevented a Trump presidency"?

First of all, you should know you're walking into a chicken restaurant, as this restaurant is heavily advertised ad nauseum. If there is only one restaurant and my health depends on eating this meal? Yes.
Except it's more like it's one restaurant serving just poisoned steak for the rest of your life and blocking any other restaurant from introducing any new types of meat. I'll fight for the new restaurant, not the same old poisoned steak.

And guess what man, Hillary/Trump (if those are the only two choices that would be acceptable to you), are both the same. Big government, endless war, anti-liberty, mouth pieces. It's like liberals and conservatives just battling over what offends them. For liberals it can be gender-specific bathrooms while conservatives will counter by being offended by two dudes banging or kneeling for a freaking song, because FEEEEEELINGS. There's minimal difference between the two sides at this point. Both want the most power to enact whatever change they want.

The only effect they have on me is negative. But I should choose one to be president because...what? Because it's my duty as a citizen? Bullshit. I'll actually try to make a difference by working at the local level and try to influence my peers to look beyond "[He or she] has the best shot to win against [him or her] and we can't have [him or her] in power because that would be disaster!"

80% of the US population at this point should probably find the nearest cliff and walk off it... if Facebook or social media told them to do it they probably would.

"Just what we needed." No.. it really wasn't. See aforementioned comment by me on walking off a cliff. That's what's needed.

Minor issues.

Countries around the world, including Canadia are going to have to come to grips with the fact that Trump is going seek trade deals that are at least "fair" to the American worker.

If you think Hillary and Trump are the same, you're not paying attention. Trump is slowly tearing apart sections of the government by installing poison pills to head those departments. He's sending people back to the coal mines while climate change is already taking it's toll on the world. He's poking the bear in North Korea, who's now threatening to nuke Australia for being US allies. The distractions of sexual politics is what the right always uses to scare the middle of the country to vote for them; fall for that at your own peril.

It's a lot more than that. The electoral voters are supposed to protect the country from the popular vote electing a populist candidate like Trump. The electoral voters are not doing their job; they are just standing by and rubber-stamping the election.

If you think they're different you aren't paying attention, or just paying attention to the wrong information. That's fine. The fear-mongering of one side to other will continue for the next 8 years, in which case we will switch sides and the same thing will happen.

This analogy in the restaurants is just stupid now. I'm not eating at a restaurant that serves poison if I don't have to eat, which in the case of voting, I don't have to do. Voting isn't the same as eating in that my life does not depend on it. I will not support a candidate who doesn't deserve my support just because that person is "better" than the other candidate who doesn't deserve my support. If you are just going to vote for the candidate with a "D" or an "R" next to their name, you might as well not pay attention and just vote along the party lines. Why the hell would I support a party that doesn't hold the same values I do?

Half-right. The electors are technically doing their job as each state has defined for them. Can't fault the electors who have agreed to follow the rules set forth by their state. You are, however, correct in that the electoral college was put in place to prevent an unqualified candidate from becoming president through populism and ensuring that the "sense of the people" was used in their decision, as referenced by Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist Papers.
